I just adopted 2 kittens from PAWS... I went to the commissary to get pet supplies only to find out that they only have food and litter. I had to get creative and use a foil roasting pan for litter boxes, and paper bowls as food/water bowls. Does anyone know where either on or off base that I can get a litter box and food bowls? [If its off base preferably somewhere within walking distance.]

Not sure about anything being within walking distance, but I guess that depends on what you consider to be "within walking distance"... AVE is a couple kilometers away from the base, and they have a pretty decent sized pet section. I know years and years ago, there used to be a pet store in Daiei Mall, but havent been in there since we got back out here, so no clue if it is still there...

The base autoport has litter pans, litter, collars, and bowls. AVE out in town and also Homes are also good stores out in town, but on base, the autoport is the only place that sells pet supplies.

The Autoport is the best bet for food bowls and litter boxes if you don't want to get off base. I find Homes' supply is incredible. I will be getting a scratching post from there sooner or later.

I have moved this post to the PETS GENERAL area vice the Yokosuka Q/A.
I had made a mistake with permissions on the Yokosuka Q/A.. that is an official Q/A area only, which are taken from the Yokosuka Seahawk and other official sources of Q/A's.... Just wanted to let you know the post had been moved to the pets area.

Doh... Totally brain froze on the Autoport... Yea, they have the basics for what you will need for your 2 new additions...

Homes and LIVIN (downstairs in the portion behind the Mr. Donut) Are great. We use the wood based stuff, that clay makes my nose all stuffy with the dust! They also sell covered litter boxes (I don't think the Autoport does). I would steer away from all those fancy litter boxes the Japanese have- with the cardboard inserts. We tried it and I found it messy and EXPENSIVE in the long run.

D2 has a decent section too- especially if you're looking for cat scratchy things. I bought 3 foot cat tower/scratchy thing for 2900 JPY- FANTASTIC deal considering something 1/4 the size cost twice as much as Homes and LIVIN. If you have a car, take a trip out to D2 to look at their selection.

I don't have a cat, but I do have a dog, and am definitely looking for pet supplies. I know about Homes and LIVIN, but can somebody provide more details on where D2 and AVE are located? Thanks.

Since you don't have a car, there is a pet shop in Daiei, or should I say, below Daiei. If you walk around Daiei, past the Thai restaurant, and towards the water, you'll see the shop to your right. It has a small section for cats but it'll be some different options compared to the Auto Port on base.

And there is a pet shop in More's, I think on the 5th floor. They don't have much, but worth a look if you're out and about.

I was just in the 100Y store near Shioiri Station yesterday and noticed that they had a decent supply of pet items. They have collars, leashes, pet bowls, pet beds, cat toys, dog/cat food, treats, grooming stuff.....

It's the 100Y store in the building across from Daiei / Shoppers Plaza. If you've never been, go out the small Daiei Gate (the one only for pedestrians) and then cross over 16. Take the escalator up to the second floor. You'll see two 100Y stores (they're the same store, but separated into two separate parts of the building).

You'll find a whole selection of pet supplies there. There's also a pet section in the 100Y store across the street from Livin. Be sure to check that one out as well if you head in that direction! I can't remember which floor that one is on. It's a huge 100Y store though.

Do you still need a litter box? I have one that I'm not using. It's new. You can have it if you want.
