I work on base for a government company, there is a few things going on that I have questions about. One is that a lady who has worked there for a long time got her daughter hired on as a stateside hire. The job was never open to the public, nor was this a job that called for any type of specialist. Her title is a specialist but its really just an admin job. This girl is making a lot of money as a GS-9, plus a housing allowance.
How is this fair? There are a lot of people here on the base that could have done this job, and would not have had to be moved to Japan and wouldn't  need a housing allowance. I was wondering if I need to do something about this, and if I did do something would anybody take it serious? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Contact Fraud Waste and Abuse? I bet your first step should be to go to PSD and talk to a JAG lawyer over there and tell 'em what you know. They could help you out. I think. I hope?

This has been talked about on here before but I think it was deleted because one guy ending up being too much of an issue. It's the kinda thing that people know is going on, but won't do anything and look the other way (perhaps because it could even potentially "harm" their job and prospects). I honestly hope something is done about it... it happens here too much, even with the "small" jobs, like at the NEX and clubs.

But, I don't have too much first-hand experience with it, so I have no room to talk.

Just to add to what Lego John suggested, I'd document every step you take - even writing down the appointment times and the results of the meetings with whomever. That was in case mom finds out about how you are attempting to disrupt her cozy bit of nepotism and tries to retaliate, you have some legal shielding under the whistleblower laws. Don't forget you don't just have to worry about mom but whoever else either owes her favors or is trying to curry favor.

Mind you, I am not a lawyer nor do I play one on TV - but I do know that the more documentation you have the flat out better off you are, regardless.

Still. It's the right fight to make. Once said daughter is in the system in a job she couldn't earn on her own, she too becomes near impossible to fire regardless of how incompetent or lazy she may (or may not - let's be slightly fair here) be.

Just be ready for nothing to happen except for a torqued off GS employee using her friends and favors to try and put grief into YOUR life.

Good luck, and welcome to the system.

Yeah, right on... fight the fight. FWA hotline and be ready for repercussions as Allan said. The govt does not need to be saddled with another lifetime no-load who cheater her way into the system. If she is truly qualified, let her get hired the right way.

Don't forget that the command (and HRO must be involved somewhere, too) had to approve/justify this billet, and how the hiring process was handled.  This will throw a flag up for everybody involved, not just the mother that got her daughter hired.

I understand that you are upset and I agree with you that this is wrong.  But as people above have said, you need to be aware that if anybody finds out that you were behind getting this investigated, you're going to have a lot of people gunning for you.

I say report it but also you have to be careful on who you allow to know that it was you that reported her as you will feel some reprecussions. But sometimes the system works. Might be better to let the Stars and Stripes reporters get a handle on it as they enjoy this kind of thing.
I remember something similar to this happened a few years back with the CNFJ Chief Staff Officer created a position advertised for four hours then got himself hired on. At least that was the rumor not sure if it was true.

I would add this piece of advice about reporting this to Fraud Waste and Abuse. Should you decide to report this anonymously you are not protected under the whistleblower protections laws. This is rarely explained to anyone, but I can tell this is the case, so proceed with caution. You can use the old "Ten Year Rule," i.e., will this make a difference to you or anyone else for that matter in ten years?
