Here is a website that shows all the available rental houses and apartments on Okinawa. So if the housing office you go to says that there is nothing available for the price you want as they are trying to max out your OHA or LQA, then ask them about the ones you are interested in from this site. Note: It might not be a good idea to show them or tell them where you got the information or they may work towards pulling this site off the internet. http://oki-us.com/Default.aspx?Aspx...eSupport=1

How would they be able to "pull it off the internet"? It's not like the housing office can shut down a Japanese ISP.

The website is hosted by Peace Phone services which also is part of Peace Housing. If they want to pull the site off the Web, they can.

We will be opening offices throughout japan and building the same network of business listings all throughout japan. The other agencies will be listing there homes for atsugi, yokota, etc.
We have connected it with the price guide tailored specifically for military to easily find a home.

There is also going to be people going to properties shooting video tours and having the videos display on the property pages.

If those don't know, you can click on the house icon, and then click STREET VIEW. The agencies sometimes have difficulty because the street view is not available on every road, but it still helps people see the are, and have and understanding/view before even going out to tbe house.

Actually thats not all the rental housing here on island. There are a few agencys that dont do online or have thier own sites. Also there are apartments and houses built with americans in mind. These units usually broker through an agency or themselfs.
There should be way more than 6 pages. There is lots of on and off base housing here in Okinawa. And to anyone comming here dont worry we have an updated on base kennel too. You have visiting hours between 10am-noon and 3pm-6pm or something like that. Ill have to find my recipt when i put my cats up there for vacation to double check. The grooming facility is also there and the girls that work there go out and walk your dog as long as the dog isnt aggressive. The cats stay in a nice quite room and the cages are medium size but you can rent two kennles next to eachother and have them remove the divider. So take the time to come to the island and talk to the agents. Alot of agents will set you up with a house that fits your family and may negotiate the price with the house owner on your behalf. So its alot differnt from what I have read of house rentals in mainland. Its alot more relaxed. Although I have run into the agents that dont want to deal with you because you are american and you have pets. Thats okay for every one person that is like that there are 5more that are more than willing to help. My agent even set up the electric, gas and internet with us right in the office when we first took the keys. So relax and just perpare yourself for a culture that is alittle differnt than what you get in mainland. The Ryuku Islands were their own kingdom for a very long time. Making Okinawa a flavor all its own.

Well it has been a while since you posted this, have you woken up to reality yet. Everyone for their first two years here sees no problems with their host. After several years though and when you can speak the language, things are a much different story.
My agent even set up the electric, gas and internet with us right in the office when we first took the keys.
Of course they were nice, they are getting ready to hustle you out of an extremely perverse amount of money, more so then they could ever hope to get in Mainland. Average housing rates in Okinawa 180,000 Yen- 700,000 Yen per month for a place that would not even be $1500 a month Stateside. Problem is, is they are not hustling you. They are hustling the Japanese taxpayer who pays for your housing. Japan gives vast amounts of money to the US to cover this type of expense. In reality Japan should reduce that amount of money to only cover building maintenance and so forth, and use the money to buy land and houses and do their own property management. Housing off base would be the same as on. There would be no rent and the Japanese taxpayer would save a bundle over time as soon as the land and houses were paid off. If and when they needed to sell the property, the profit would go back into the Japanese government and not into some locals pocket. At the amounts that are being paid out now a house could be bought and paid off in 20 years or less easily and up until right now, all of the money expended so far has just been thrown away permanently, never to be investment returned.

Here everything is about money. Your so called friends are most likely only that way to use you at some point, either for buying them something at the PX or some other reason, that is if you have local friends. Even when my thinking was like yours, my best friends still only wanted to use me and it isn't just me, look around and you will see what I am talking about. Wake up to reality, see what is right in front of you for what it really is. The guy didn't marry a girl, he married her whole family and they are all at the PX, and not just to see it.
