Wow. I wish EVERYONE safe travels. Also, this is the first time I ever remember news reporting where the carrier is going.

I mean they'll say it's heading out and will visit Australia and Hong Kong and stuff, but never anything like a timetable kinda thing. Show of force indeed.

I only saw the Kitty Hawk out in the water heading back to port once, and it looked SO FREAKIN' INTIMIDATING. I can't imagine being on the beach somewhere and looking out and seeing that sucker slowly marching past. They need to have some ultra sonic loudspeakers with the Jaws theme. That'll scare any bad folks into straightening up and flying right.

As a GW wife, Not liking this one darn bit....guess the children and I will be finding thing to do this summer. Sniff Sniff

are you new here? The ship wasnt here at all last summer either, apparently thats how it is normally. Hope you find things to do, the humidity/rain arent fun.

I used to be on the kitty hawk years ago. The carrier is never here usually during the summer. We usually came back after, then always had the famous thanksgiving in hong kong. :) I remember eating duck soup with some friends 2 years in a row or thanksgiving.

It must be hard for people to be away from family members for so long.

I think it just helps if all spouses out there have hobbies to keep them occupied and busy while hubby is gone.

We are going to enjoy our time out here.... I am totally kidding..Thank you to all the folks that wish up well. For all the famililes that are back in Japan, we will do you all proud!! Keep your eyes and ears open with the ombudsmen that are there. They are a valuble resource that will give out all the right info straight from the CO. I say boo hoo for the GW!!! Small boys spend more time at sea and our schedules get jerked around alot worse. Not one of the small boys ever sits in port for 6 months straight.
Hasn't been a real carrier here since the Midway left; now that was a great ship!!! She endure all the same hardships as her escorts. I agree with Primemas- email/phonecalls/internet not a bad life.

I was on the Indy also. I had some hard times on her too. But you can't blame technology i.e. phones, email, ect. for the time that we out here still are away from our loved ones. You can never get back the times that we miss. Yes I know that we were in port for a long time. But it doesn't matter. We are out here now and doing the job! that is all that matters. If you don't appreciate it, then move to Russia! We are doing what many before us have done. I don't pity the small boys at all. They have thier mission. We have ours!!!

The GW schedule is GREAT. The last carrier he was stationed on was gone for 10-11 months once, then the other cruise was 9-10 months. And none of this coming home for a week here and there, ha ha.

But this stuff with North Korea is bothersome because if things get heated who knows what's gonna happen. So, like I said before, this sucks.
