OMG. Can PSD be any more dysfunctional?!?!

When I got my ID they put the wrong year on my expire date, so I need to get a new card.  I'm not 100% sure which forms I need, whether I need an appointment or whether my husband needs to be there.  So rather than make an extra trip to base I thought I'd call to ask.

Well who'd have thought it'd be pure hell.  The first number I call, the guy gives me another extension to call.  They tell me another one... etc etc.  So now I've been given 4 different numbers to call and not one single person to answer the phone who can answer my question.

Of course, this wouldn't be so irritating if the info was on the FREAKING PSD WEBSITE like it used to be 2 years ago.  /scream

So I grab hubby out of work to go down there after finally getting a hold of someone to assure me all I needed was hubby and 2 forms of ID... only to get to the counter and be told I need some other form because we're not active duty.  /bangs head on counter.  I didn't even know there was a different set of rules that I needed to ask about.

Why don't you just wait until another person is on duty? That seems to work for most of the places there!

I got my ID last year or year before. They all run together. It went really quickly though. But it also says it expires in 2911. Yay!

    (no, not really)

If PSD put the wrong date on the ID, I would have raised holy hell about it right there with the SEA or OIC. Going thru the entire process for a mistake THEY made would have been unacceptable to me. And my wife? She probably would have gone Hulk on them.

To be fair, I didn't notice the mistake until almost a year later. The funny thing is they first made a mistake on hubby's by one day, which DBIDS caught straight away. So when we were fresh off the plane all bleary eyed, PSD screwed up both of our IDs. WTG guys!!

No, there are a bunch if idots there. We went in a few weeks ago to get our new id cards and they were like you are here for your retierment ids... we are like no. one system has are correct contract date and the other did not. We got all the paperwork that we need to show their mistake and we were told they were going to take care of us right away, then one certain idot, told us that we had to wait till everyone else in the waiting room was taking care of while he ate his dam snickers bar infront of us, and then took his friend that was behind us and started bashing us to him saying we are trying to cut. Did not sit well with us and we asked to talk to his LPO and COC and he told us there was no one there, WRONG... needless to say we got what we needed and he got a few ice complaints and we got the correct things taken care of. do you ever get the feeling they dont want to be there? they just look at you with a blank face and they are not all that friendly when you go there?

It is certainly painful. My first id had the wrong information, and I made sure that I did not leave until it was completely fixed. Because it was my first experience, it made me never forget to double check the id.

PSD in Japan is like the DMV in the states. Service sucks, the staff doesn't care and nobody in leadership is interested in fixing it.

You are right, they don't care. The Navy is completely phasing out the entire PS rate and the Sailors are pissed! And to make matters worse, they are hiring these sailors back as disgruntal civilian employees.

When we had my daughter a year ago and had to get her certificate of birth abroad and passport, PSD tried to tell me that we *had* to go to the Embassy in Tokyo. I was like - no way, the paperwork from the hospital says that you do this, and I don't want to drag a newborn up to Tokyo on the trains in the middle of August. They kept insisting that I had to go to the Embassy though, so I called the Embassy to get my appointment, and the desk clerk up there checked her list of PSD's that will do the passports, and our PSD is on the list. She said to call back and insist for an appointment - it worked like a charm.

With other things I have had to do there, I have found that sometimes you have to be slightly bitchy to get things done here. Sucks, but thats how it goes I guess. My advice to Tirani - Go in there, tell them they made a mistake and that you aren't leaving until its taken care of. If they give you attitude, insist to speak with a superior. Be firm! Remember that they are there to serve and "support" (it's right in the title!!), and you have the right to have a mistake corrected in a timely matter without attitude.

It was good of them to finally put content on their website.  Only took what... 2 years?

They've made a grave tactical error, however, that will rapidly render the website unusable. Where they list POC's, the actually have the name, photo, and phone number of PSD staff members.  With the rate that people PCS in and out, this will quickly be outdated -- it probably already is -- and who has time to keep names & photos current online?

They really should have stayed with main numbers for each department, leave otu the names, and that info would be good for years with no maintenance required.
