I was asked tonight if pet sitters need to be approved by CFAY.  I have been looking for over an hour and cannot find anywhere that they do.  Does anyone know if they do?

    Lora,

    Approved by whom?

NO YOU DONT NEED TO BE APPROVED. Are you kidding me? Its an animal.

Is there some type of certification if a cat gets a hair ball or a dog barking to much...

    Who told you this?

In Lora's defense, my wife and I were wondering the same thing a month or 2 ago. I know you are supposed to inform CFAY of any ways of earning money, if I am not mistaken. I may not be wording it correctly, but I know there is some sort of instruction that touches on spouses employment and having to register with the base... Wouldnt pet sitting be included in this category?

I dont think it was as bad of a question as you are making it out to be, Adam...

Your right Hoff. My bad. I didnt mean to come off rude, with the ARE YOU KIDDING ME..

You are right, if you plan to make money, you will have to be approved by the base CFAY legal office.

You can fill in the form for what you plan to do, and what services you plan to support.

There are several people that dont get the approval, but they operate under the radar. Its always best to just fill in the paper, and then get the approval.

Most of the pet sitters I've known did not fill out the paperwork.(4) I've only known 1 who did, but that's because a bunch of other services were lumped together such as lawn/yard work and babysitting. And if you do get the paperwork done, you can make 'official' advertisements such as at the community center and get the 'official' stamp on the advertisement. So getting the paperwork done may be better for business, but you have to keep in mind that you can only have so many dogs in your house at one time. However, there is no limit as to how many lawns you can do within a couple days. I have personally looked at the paperwork and it is very vague. This leads me to believe that CFAY is more concerned about the sale of goods.

BUT I do think it's a good idea to fill out and send in the paperwork just to cover yourself.

What about children who want to do this (with parent supervision)? My friend's 8 year old son wants to do this. He takes care of our cat when we are away for the weekend.

Polly that sounds like a casual thing with friends-I wouldn't worry about it.
