It all depends on how drunk you are!!!! No. Just kidding. The Japanese do it because it's thier country but we can't do it... at least you aren't supposed to. Again.. if you do it, don't get caught!!!

Korea is the same way. It wasn't uncommon for me to walk to work in the morning and pass by several drunken businessmen who were wrapping up their evening festivities at 6:30 am peeing against a wall right on the sidewalk next to the main roadway. But if you aren't a local national, don't get caught or they will drag you to the police station until your command can send someone to come pick you up.

I've seen children do it. Or pee into a bottle.

I went to a festival and saw a very tipsy man whip out his "pee pee" and started going in his bottle. He was surrounded by woman and children. Didn't even phase him. The women sitting next to him was acting like "oh my gosh did you see that? don't look it's not polite".
To enjoy Japan you gotta go out and experience it! Need a buddy, msg me!

Yep, it's very common. Typically done by old, drunk men. I just passed by a group of old guys the other day and all of them were encouraging their friend who had to pee to go do it on the street. They also like to hock loogies on the street. Disgusting!

I see it all the time.  People walking their dogs then all of a sudden, a sniff, a raised leg and, well, you know the rest.

    All the time.

Seen non-Japanese get away with it if and only if they have been part of the community for years. I could probably do it and get away with it in my neighborhood, but I never would.

when we first moved here, we were on our way to main base for Sunday chapel services. After we went through the first toll booth, we saw a motorcycle group to the left. They were parked on the side of the road and all of them were peeing on the hill there! We said, "Don't look, girls!" It was quite funny. I've seen this happen a few other times. usually in the middle of the day.
