Hi everybody.  My family and I will be doing our first pcs to Sasebo in July, and I was curious about visiting Yokosuka.  For those that have visited, what is the most affordable way to visit there (train, flight, bus, etc.), and approximately how much does it cost?

Barring the answer from someone who actually knows, I think it's a couple of hundred by train.

You can find your way by Jorudan's root finder:

    http://www.jorudan.co.jp/english/

Put "Sasebo" to [From] and "Yokosukachuo" to [To].

    The 1st proposed root is:

From Sasebo station, take bus to Nagasaki Airport
Fly to Haneda (Tokyo domestic) Airport
Take Keikyu line to Yokosukachuo via Keikyu-Kamata (You need to change trains at Keikyu-Kamata)

It takes about 5 hours and costs 41,140 Yen.

The 3rd proposed root is all railway. It takes about 8 hours but costs 24,410 Yen.

You may feel the 3rd option is reasonable, but it isn't. There are few discount option for railway fares. You may need to pay full fare in most cases. But Airlines offer wider options for discount. You may be able to fly from Nagasaki to Haneda as cheap as 14,600 Yen if you "Tabiwari" discout. Limitatios: Need 28 days advance purchase and less flexible to cancel and change. Goto http://www.ana.co.jp/ to check flights and rates. If you fly by this rate (14,600 Yen), cost for whole route is 16,740 Yen which is cheaper than using railway all enroute.

Thanks Okumura for the info! The 3rd route sounds the easiest as I am not a fan of the airports. The trains are much easier from what I experienced.

If you fly skymark airlines usually has good prices for flights. Sometimes you can get a tickets for $79 one way. We use them all the time when we fly within Japan. I have flown with them 6 times.
