US Embassy in Japan Appointment Waiting Times

I've never had a long wait at the embassy and I've been there about 4 times.  One time, I whipped out my brown official passport and we got to cut in line in front of everybody and go first.  They kept saying "special, special."  I really did feel special at that moment!!

fwiw, we went to the consulate in Fukuoka. They are "appointment only" for everyone; no drop ins allowed. On the other hand, they see you quick, you're outta there in no time.

If you want to make an appointment you can end up waiting up to a month before your appointment date from the time you set it up. Just depends on how busy they are, and what your appointment is for. Once your appointment date arrives be sure to have a full day off and nothing else to do that day. Sometimes you get in and get out in a few minutes. Other days you're stuck there for most the day. Again it depends on what you are there for.
