Do you know if there is a max amount they will exchange for you? We need to have $12,000 converted to yen for our move in costs, and have no idea where to have that done. We bank with NFCU, and they don't offer yen there.

If you have 24-hours community bank will exhange it for you (no additional charge).

If you need it same day, you will have to beg/plead the manager to approve since they usually ask for 24-hour notice before exchanging anything over $2500 (I think that's the figure they told me).

I was able to exchange about $8,000 at Community Bank in PSD one day this summer. You could always do the max Community Bank will allow and then go out in town to the Bank of Yokohama for the rest. There are also several posts about what the best way to do it is - get traveler's cheques or use cash. I still haven't figured that part out.
