Favorite is such a harsh word to use here....

But the one that stands out the most is one that you young whippersnappers probably never saw - the infamous Screaming BDUs/anti-startch commercial from long ago.  Fortunately long enough that it's not on youtube. 

Even to this day it makes me long for the invention of brain-bleach.

The best, greatest AFN commercial comes from Europe. Mid-80s. Some Army guy stands in one of the giant on-base housing complexes. Surrounded by washing machines, he begins his rap. And ooooh, what an amazing rap it is. Sample this:

I'm the energy rapper
And I'm here to say
Turn it on/turn it off it's the Army way.

It looked as bad as it sounds. Now THAT is a great AFN commercial. I've tried to find Energy Rapper on YouTube (and Google, Yahoo, Altavista--back in the day before Google--and others. No joy).

It was SO AWESOMELY awful. It still makes me smile.

This is your life, and it's ending one AFN commercial at a time.

Don't forget the "Combat Weatherman"... that one always brought a chuckle. Unfortunately, they were serious.

In Okinawa, in 2006 or so, they had a commercial that featured people poking dead birds with sticks. It was very funny! It was a locally produced commercial warning of the dangers of Bird Flu.

Yeah, we've come so far in all these years. Now they have CGI postal clerks rapping about how to box your packages.  Same lame lyrics!

I do like the one with the two dudes who go Space A and are prepared for wherever they send 'em. That was pretty cool. They had winter clothes on and then POOF! They were ready for surf!

I don't knock AFN anymore, but I love the posts so far. True enough, they have some blech commercials.

The one about recycling on Okinawa has become a cult classic in my husbands work center. They greet each other with "Bam yo I'm a styrophoam cup."

I saw a couple of those today and laughed at them.  They were awesome.  I also get a kick out of Yokota's "Laundry" commercial.

As cheesy and bad as the AFN commercials are, when I was in the US I actually saw commercials that made me miss the AFN commercials.

I enjoy a lot of their historical and state info commercials.

I wonder if AFN has ever gotten commercials that were banned. Just kidding, hehe, I think. Banned commercials in Youtube are quite interesting, huh?
