Hi everybody.  So I have an xbox live account which my wife and I use avidly to watch netflix.  I am going to be on the USS Denver out of Sasebo and still deciding whether to renew my Live subscription.  My question is whether 1) will my US made 360 work alright off base based upon Japan's electrical system and 2) how is xbox live like in Japan?  I know some people get excited about being able to get earlier access to Japanese made game demos before stateside, but I am going to miss the convenience of netflix.  Pros and cons please

Don't use XBox live to watch Netflix, but my zombie-killing buddy who lives in Singapore watches Netflix on it all the time.

As for XBL, it's fun! I have a great connection over here (I live off base and have JCom). XBox never really took off in the Japanese markets. Not enough RPG games for Japanese, I hear. But I sometimes play with Japanese folks and I always manage to freak them out when I say hello and stuff to them as we play LEFT FOR DEAD 2.

Like I said, I can't help with Netflix, but maybe someone else can help. My friend in Singapore watches it all the time.

You should play zombies with me. YEAH!

Just curious- Doesn't Netflix scream "You're not the US!!! You can't watch our movies" because we're coming over a Japanese line and IP? I know they won't let me do it over the PC without running a VPN, I would think Xbox would be the same? I don't know...can you run an Xbox through some sort of VPN?

The Xbox should work just fine offbase though. I'm not sure about Netflix though.

Check and see if there is a label on the Xbox that mentions the power requirements. If it says something like 100-240VAC 50-60Hz, then you won't have a problem. Power in Japan is 100VAC 50Hz.

Come to think of it, most of my US made stuff runs fine on the Japanese power grid. Except for my hot air popcorn popper, that thing doesn't work as well as it does in the US.

Lego John - Left for Dead 2 sounds like a blast. I played the demo of it here, and it is intense. It is like Resident Evil 5 on steroids or something. When I pick it up, I would look you up on live.

I'm glad to hear electronics play alright for the most part over there. I ended up getting a Japanese Sega Saturn as well as Dreamcast a few years back, and those play great stateside. I called Netflix, and they said that it will not work over there. As such, I will cross my fingers.
