    Hi All,

This past year I have applied to the DOD for a teaching job on Okinawa. I had filled out and provided all the info that they had asked for. The only problem is that one of my Professional Evaluations seems lost somewhere. My supervisor filled out the online one and submitted it but HR never got it yet. Another of my supervisors sent one in and it was not posted to my application until 6 weeks later. Now for a few questions!

It is normal for the process to take so long?

Is there anyone that is teaching out there for DOD, that might give me a few hints to improve my chances?
(Stationed on Okinawa '80-'84, 20 years experience and working on my 6th year in Ed Leadership)

    One last thing!

HR has asked for my Member 4 Copy of my DD-214, long story short -
DD Form 214 received is not Member Copy 4 to determine character of service or eligibility for 5 point veteran preference. You might need to go to your headquarters service department or Veteran's Administration to obtain the copy. Did all that, but can only get a copy 2. Copy 4 is given during discharge of service.  Any suggestions?

Thank you so much in advance.

I have been teaching for DoDEA for the past ten years after spending 24 years in the Navy and 3 working for MWR in Italy. My advice would be:

    a) Be patient. They have a lot of applications and go through them thoroughly. Don't express any anger in your communications. It is highly competitive to get in, so you don't want anything used against you in the application process.

    b) Make sure you keep copies of anything other people send to them, like professional evaluations. When I applied there wasn't an on-line system, so I'm not sure how that works now.

    c) It is the best job on the world, so hang in there.
"It's amazing how much you can get accomplished if you don't care who gets the credit." (seen on a deskplate on President Ronald Reagan's desk at the White House)

Thank you for your reply. I do have one copy of my Professional Evaluation because it was sent by fax. The others I do not have due to the online submission. I will be patient, thanks again! Good luck to you.

Just a real quick question? What is needed for working in MWR? I have a degree in Phys. Ed and Health and also working on my administration for Athletic Director. Any ideas? Thanks.
