I hate it when people smoke on their balconies in the tower.  My living room now smells like cigarettes, thanks for that.  My two small children have both complained to me about it, and now I have to close my doors and windows to keep the smell from coming in.

Maybe next time my kids are screaming on our balcony I won't tell them to be quiet.

there is no other option, from what I understand you arent supposed to be smoking indoors. I think I read somewhere within the past few months that there is on base housing somewhere in the US that has buildings specifically for nonsmokers.

I feel your pain. I have the same problem except that I am in a townhouse. My neighbors smoke on their back porch and the smoke wafts into my living room and bedroom. My drapes stink and it really sucks to have to shut the door/windows when it is hot. I am looking forward to the ac being turned on this week so I can stay cool and not have itchy eyes/nose and a smelly house.

Don't forget to turn on your exhaust fan for the stove also after closing the doors. The smoke will draft in through the exhaust fan vent. We have pretty good flow of incoming ventilation there above the stove.

This has been a huge problem for me as well. but sadly, the people above us smoke in their apartment too. The smell comes down through every vent in our place. I called housing several times, but was told that they have the right to smoke in their home. yes, you can smoke in doors, but I was told by housing that those who do will be responsible for out of pocket expenses for the extra cleaning and painting it will cost and take to get the smell out of the home when they PCS. I hate it. Oh, and there's nothing more fun then picking cigaret butts up off your balcony from those above you!

this is ridiculous to complain about.
its not like they blowing smoke down into your apt. on purpose.
its their house, so is the balcony.
they can smoke on THEIR balcony.

I smoke. My choice and if I lived in a tower,I would smoke inside as well as on the balcony. It is MY place.

Likewise with my megawatt stereo, I can blast it as loud as I want. It's MY house. Oh, and my cute dog that only barks a little not to mention my screaming kids that I refuse to control. None of it is YOUR business. I can see we have a happy, considerate community.

And the above sentiments are why we need smoking and non-smoking towers. Or just to make them all non-smoking.

I'm not gonna b*tch to anyone about smoking in their homes since it's not against the rules. But it seems like all the smokers throw their crap off the balcony (and lands on mine) which is why I hate the smokers in the building (You're ruining it for the considerate smokers, too).

    Well, I guess I did b*tch. Whoops.

Being "Considerate" can only go so far before you are inpuning your own rights. Not blasting your stereo after 2000 is being considerate to your neighbors. Not smoking in a rental property is being considerate to your landlord and anyone who lives in the house after you move out. Not smoking on your balcony beacuse the wind, mind you, might carry it into someones open window is pandering to the whiney b*tches who personify whats wrong with out society today. Close your window, buy a fan and grow up there are 7 Billion people on this planet and your supposed rights do not stand greater then anyone elses.

I bought my husband one of those cups for the cars, he puts his butts in there, and I make him throw them in the trash. I yell at him everytime he knocks ashes off the edge of the balcony, even though there is only one person below us. I bought him the ashcup for a reason. And I make sure he uses it.

I smoke on my balcony, and I definitely do not intend on making anyone else's house smell. I keep my butts with me, I don't flick them off as I have seen others do. I try to be a considerate smoker and I hope that others are as well.

First off, my husband is a smoker. So I feel I can rant.

I do not allow him to smoke on our balcony because the smoke comes back into the house. I make hims change his clothes and wash his hands before he holds our infant daughter because the toxins is on his clothes and can get on her. He smokes at desginated smoking areas on base and not while pushing the baby carriage. At home he smokes across the street in the parking lot away from other people's houses.

If smokers want to "kill" themselves a bit faster then they can do so on their own dime. But I think it's toally unfair for smokers to inflict their hazardous waste onto other people without their consent. I've seen babies pick up ciggeratte butts from inconsiderate smokers. I've seen wildfires start by people flicking their still lit butts onto the sidewalks. If you want to smoke in your house, close your windows and keep your smoke to yourself.

2nd hand smoke does harm others. I'm glad it's getting harder for people to smoke. When will they realize that it's dangerous and expensive?
