Before we moved here everyone kept telling us how you could get anything out of a vending machine. All I've seen are sodas, smokes and ice cream. Where are the vending machine Undies?!?!

On rest stops along the expressways, I've found a vending machine that makes fresh coffee. I mean, it grinds the beans to your specs and brews it fresh right there. It takes about 2 minutes and has video animation while you watch. Even before the coffee is brewed, you can smell the fresh beans. It costs a few yen more than vending machine coffee from a mix, but it's worth it!

I've noticed a lot of these vending machines don't have lids for your hot drinks. Instead, they serve in a large cup only half-full with no lid. I thought that was weird at first, but it's easier to drink and perhaps better for the environment (more paper waste, but no plastic.) Of course, the typical American reaction: "Why is my cup only half full! I got ripped off!!"
