Flying in through Naha (commercial)? or the Freedomflight (Kadena AB)?
I'm sure you've already made arangements through your sponsor for transportation and lodging.
There is a free shuttle from Naha to Kadena (last time I checked), but I don't have the details on it.

If you get this before you leave Naha, make sure you look at the gift shops in the airport. They have cool scary HABU snakes in sake bottles there. I'm not really going anywhere with this, I just wanted you to focus on some inane thing so you (hopefully) won't be stressed out about the rest of your trip.

They are really cool snarling snake viper things in the jars. Oh, and pick up some sweet potato candies. They're uber-Okinawa things. Look around for purple stuff in boxes. They are sweet potato candies and honestly? They're really tasty.

I am not new to Japan,. I lived in Yokosuka for 3 1/2 yrs. I just hate when everything gets all confusing and nobody seems to know what is going on!!! Hopefully it will get better and we get offered housing quickly
