The Tour de Tama is held twice a year, usually in May and Oct. The next TdT is 30 Oct 2010. The dates for the May TdT have yet to be decided.

I didn't know it was twice a year. How hard is it for a beginner?

The course is short. For the beginer class, it's two laps of a 2-3 mile course. There are a few steep hills, but nothing that you can't get off and walk ;-)

I think there are still a few more days left to register.

Will they be doing another TdT in May 2012? I want to start preparing for it. Where is Tama Hills course? I am underway so I can't go to ODR to find out ><

I think they always have the Tour de Tama twice a year.  I'm hoping to make it, but doubting I will, this time.

The green arrow is the front gate of Tama Hills.  According to Google Maps the lat-long is 35.64710, 139.48334

How would I go about taking my bike there? Are bike mounts on cars allowed in Japan? I haven't seen any on the streets, nor have I seen anyone bring a bike on public transportation.

Fleet Rec. sells bike racks for cars, and I've seen them on American's cars.  I don't recall seeing them on any non-Y-Plate cars though.  But I'm guessing it's ok to have them.

If you want to try the train you need a bag to put your bike in.  I've never done it, but have been looking into getting one.  The bags are called "rinkou bukuro".  If you google them you'll find out more.  The trains also can say "no" during higher traffic times.
