Q: I am writing in regard to the electronic signs on Yokosuka Base. Of the three that I see on a normal basis, only one is in working order. The Navy Exchange sign near Green Beach pool has been in poor shape since I moved here more than a year ago. You can see that it is still powered up because a few dozen random lights are on. The other sign is the movie scroller sign at the Benny Decker Theater. My family and I rely on this movie sign as we drive home in helping us decide if a movie is in our immediate future. Are there any plans to repair and/or replace these signs in the near future?

A: Thank you for your comments. The Benny Decker Theater’s electronic marquee sustained damage during typhoon Fitow. Regrettably, attempts to repair the marquee have been unsuccessful. We have submitted a request to Public Works to replace this marquee. The Navy Exchange electronic sign is currently off, what you are seeing is merely a reflection. A new sign has been on order since July – we are hoping to have a new sign installed before Christmas. The good news is we have additional marquees on our unfunded lists and should year-end or other money become available we hope procure additional signs.
