How did you make it being away from your husband/wife while he/she is underway for month/months.How did you or will you try to stay sane- NOT having children what makes you 24/7 occupied? What do you do? Any ideas? Advice? Experience in that subject?

Friends, Hobbies, Going out to Japan and seeing and visiting monuments/culture spots, Get a Job, Travel to nearby countries... I could go on and on..

You have to get out of the house first off. Too many people are scared to see Japan, and see things.

SO WHAT YOU DONT SPEAK THE LANGUAGE. Thats not important.
Most people will atleast try to help, or try to understand your english if you need some assistance when your out and about.

I see the problem with most people that come here and get frustrated because their husbands are deployed are the ones that just complain and sit in the house thinking its everyone's fault for the person being alone, etc..
You have to attempt to make friends here.

We have our weekly/monthly outings for JapanBases.com.

This is a good place to meet people.

I hope we can start to have hundreds of people all gather together, to just attend events, head to the beach all together, go to concerts together, etc..

Dont worry about your husband being gone. Its your turn to have fun, and make friends.

If you're underway you should be working on quals if you're a NUB. If you are qualed you should be kicking NUBs in the back side so they too can be qualed...

I'm "young" but I've been with my husband for a while and he's been on many cruises. And honestly, the thing that has/had helped me the most, is working. It keeps you occupied, you meet people, and there is some extra cash in your wallet.

But coming here the jobs are limited and not nearly as attainable. But it's like Adam said, you just need to get off base! My first summer here I didn't know anyone so I would just walk off base and go to a different store each time and buy something new to eat to take home. Or walk down a new road I hadn't seen before. I'd go to the movies once a week even if I really didn't want to see anything.

You've just got to push yourself to get out of the house and off the base.

We're also trying to do a couple meet-ups a month, and they'll be posted in the "Meet-ups" section under the "Japan" tab for now on. Please come, everyone is friendly, very diverse (like it isn't just "mom with kids" get-togethers or anything restricting like that), and are looking to meet new people. I've added a few friends to my list and I can tell my summer is going to be a lot more fun.

Besides waiting for the monthly meet-ups, you could probably post to find one or two people to head out in town with you on short notice. You might find the smaller group and quicker response more to your liking. It's not clear from your post as to whether you're familiar with the off base community or not, but the more you learn to enjoy it, the more satisfying your experience in Japan will be.

I agree with Prime.... I usually read, listen to music, watch movies, work on quals, spend time b.s'ing in the smoke pit (although that's about to go away).... I do have to say that the most worthwhile pastime is NUB bashing.
Warning: Eventually, I WILL say something that offends you. This is perfectly normal. My recommendation: get over it.
