I used to know a guy here that sold tires, much less than NEX. I need 195/70R/14's, 2 of them. NEX is 100 each, I know I can get some used in town but is anyone selling tires on base? A dealer or anyone?

Yoko, I have the best guy in town.

When you come out of the main gate, take a left down 16.

Follow RT 16 until you see a DENNYS on your right hand side.

Immediately to your left, you will see a TIRE place, (I forget the name), its a little Japanese guy, but I went in there, and got my tires recently.

Mr. Auto recommended him to me, and he actually called for me to arrange everything, but it was cheap, BRAND NEW tires, and he did it within 30 minutes of me arriving. I just went across the street and had breakfast at the Denny's while he did it.

I have decided to avoid AutoBacs, and AutoPort for now on.

Mr. Auto has so many connections for pretty much anything. Its crazy how many people he knows dealing with car related stuff. I also bumped my rear bumper when I was parking. STUPID ME! Anyhow, I gave my car to Mr. Auto, and for 2000 yen, he took it to this shop and they got all the bumps out, and clean out the scratches.
I bet if I took it to AutoBacs it would of been atleast 10,000 yen.

There is so much markup with car service.

I actually think the guy that did the tires for me (may of did it for a favor on Mr. Auto) because I remember I asked how much the tires were going to be, and he said something like 13,000 yen each. I said okay, and I think I paid total 26,000 yen for the 2 tires I replaced. I know I got quoted from AutoBacs before I went and they said 31,000 yen each tire, because I have heavy duty tires..

He told me in 3 months to get my other 2 tires replaced, and I know without a doubt I am taking it for now on to that guy on any TIRE related issues.

I have a dent in my rear door. Could Mr. Auto also fix that? If so, how do I get in touch with him? Do I just go into a tire shop across from Denny's and look for a Japanese guy? Does someone have a name or phone number of an English speaker (if they have one at their shop) so I can set up an appt)? Thanks everyone.

TireRack.com is the best place...da#$ good prices and ships to FPO/APO. I usually get the tires with 5-7 days after I order them. Been using them for years.

Does the guy at this tire place speak English? I need at least 1 tire replaced (I have the spare on right now) and Autoport is telling me that it is going to cost at least $300! I looked up the tire online, and they only cost about $80 in the states, so I know I'm getting ripped off by Autoport, and that's something I'm trying to avoid.... especially with a baby on the way very soon!

Costco in Yokohama has real good prices on new tires. I bought some 32" off road tires for my Land Rover cheaper than I would buy in the states.
96 Land Rover Discovery for sale, see the ad in the for sale section. Must sell soon.

Hey wilson, do you put the tires on yourself or do you have someone do them for you? Will it be a hassle if I buy tires from Tirerack and have them sent to Negishi? Are there any restrictions on weight?

If I already have the tires, what do you speculate the cost of putting them on the wheels would cost? If I take them to the guy out in town, would he do them fairly cheap?

I'm trying to get some 285/75R16 Michelin LTX M/S2 Tires for my Hilux. Any help is appreciated!

I bought four tires from tirerack.com for my SUV and they arrived here about a week after i put in my order. I picked up the tires at the post office and went straight to NEX Autoport to have them replace my old tires. They just charged me for the labor and for balancing the new tires. Pretty cheap compared to buying here, I saved about 50%.

Do you remember how long they had your SUV and how much the Labor & Balancing was?
