Hi, guys! We had two very good meetups in April so let's try for May!

Since we just had a night meet-up I'd figure we'd go for a lunch meet-up that's family friendly, too.

So, where would you all like to go? And when?

I know that the GW families might want a meet-up after the first week in May ( if you know what I mean). And I'd also like to recommend More's City "Gyu-kaku" for lunch, a Sailor's favourite.

If you're not familiar with Gyu-Kaku, it's a Yakiniku restaurant where the grills are on the table and you cook your own bite-sized meat and vegetables. They have an English menu (which is large), nice drink list (for our adults), and it's kid friendly. Plus, if we go during a weekday we'll be able to walk right on in because it's not very busy.

So just a couple suggestions --now please leave your own!

PS, this is for EVERYONE! Mom, Dad, kids, navy spouse, single Sailor, civilian, retired, Japanese, etc etc.

    EDIT: We've decide on Gyu-Kaku at More's City. Friday, May 7th @ 11 AM.

That sounds really cool! I wish our menfolk from the Blue Ridge could join us as well, but I doubt that will coincide with our menfolk from the GW still being here. :/

I will definitely try to be there!! I don't want to miss this one!! I love Gyu-Kaku!!

I was just thinking I need another meet-up. This sounds great. My hubby is one of those Blue Ridge folks, not that he'd be able to join us for lunch even if he WAS here, but you know, one can always dream. I'm up for anything, as long as there are other adults to talk to! LOL Can't wait to see everyone again.

I hope we can have atleast 40-50 people this time.

It would be nice to have a large enough group, that we can work out a deal with Gyu-Kaku.

I will have my wife talk with them anyway, and explain that we will have a large enough group and work on a discount.

Wow, Adam. I was just thinking 20 would be nice, lol. Last time we had over 10 for the first lunch meet-up.

And this time there will be no time constraints, so we can chat at our leisure. An hour was kinda pushing it last time for lunch, I think.

Guess it sounds like Gyu-Kaku is a go.

So, did we maybe want to do this on a Friday...? Maybe like the 14th, or is there an event going on that day I don't know about? School stuff, ship returning, whatever.

OR, did we want it sooner to include the GW Sailors? I'm sure that Friday (the 7th) isn't good because that's their last full weekend home... but maybe earlier in the week? As a GW Spouse I'm game for either.

I'd love to come! Hubby would probably like to come too-he is GW also, so depends on when we set it up for! It's just for a lunch, so it's not like it's a whole lot of together time lost for spending time with them before they gotta do what they gotta do !

Liz, any specific dates you have in mind?

Lets try to get as many people as we can out to this event. Its just lunch, nothing serious, just a time for people to all meet up, say hello, eat some good food, and go on there way..

Blasphemy. You should be able to eat your 3 daily meals there, Prime. But you should come!!!

Adam... erm, I was thinking if we want to involve the GW Sailors we could do the 6th or 7th. And if not, we could wait til the following Friday which would be the 14th.

I guess I'd be kinda nice to involve the GW Sailors since they might not have a chance in the future... so Thursday or Friday, guys?

Alright, let's figure this out then for the Mums.

I vote for Friday the 7th, 'cause the GW Sailors have GQ on Thursdays and any guys that work the night shift ain't wanna come in after that, AKA my husband, lol.

So lets see what would be a better day for everyone else.

Whatever day you pick, just keep in mind, when picking a time, that those of us with school age kids have to be able to get back to base by 2 o'clock. Can't wait to try somewhere new and, hopefully, have some new faces join us this time! Adam, will your wife be able to come to this?

I would recommend the times be starting at 11am - 1pm.

That way those that are working can try to make it out as well.

I know last time you had an event a few ladies told me they would of come, but 12pm starting (they wouldnt be able to make it with their lunch schedules).

If people decide to stay longer than 1pm, thats up to them, but it atleast allows those that are on a time crunch to go in, eat, talk, and leave.

That'd be fine, whatever works best for everyone.

And I was just informed that on the 7th the GW is having a Fast Cruise so none of the GW Sailors can make it.

Elizabeth, would any of the GW sailors be able to come if we did it on Thursday? I know that there is some issue with GQ, but would it be possible for some GW sailors to come if they wanted to on Thursday? My hubby is BR so I don't know anything about the GW...

TBH, I don't think they could take that much time off right before cruise for a lunch. And the Sailors that work nights wouldn't come because of the GQ issue. It just seems like it's not going to work out for the GW Sailors this time around. :/

We could also push it back to the next week (like the 14th or something) if that works better for people. I was thinking Fridays were easier for people 'cause some can take off early or whatever than in the middle of the week. IDK.

Just wanna figure it out so the parents who want to do CDC can get an appt.

I can't guarantee that I would go on the 14th since I don't yet know the BR's schedule for that day. Not that my hubby will probably be able to come home early no matter what, but I am leaving that day open until I know what's going on. I don't know if other BR people will be waiting to see what the schedule ends up being. But, I will come on the 14th if I find out he won't be home by lunch, or if he gets home in time to come with me! I say, just pick a day and hopefully people will be able to make it. There's always going to be someone who will wish you picked the other day, so just make an executive decision and we'll go with whatever you decide!

Ohhh, I forgot about the BR. We'll do a night out where the BR Sailors can attend.

Alright, you're right ErinBeth, let's call this. I'm gonna go for a Friday since I think that's easier for people... so lets go Friday, April 7th. At 11 AM.

Alrighty, so the guys who want to use CDC go ahead an make your appointment, I'm not gonna change the date, lol. (Lunch we'll probably be around two hours.) But kids are also welcome!

I went to Patio restaurant today. Unfortunately there lunch special was canceled due to Golden Week. I guess when they have holidays they dont serve the same menus.

I know Gyu Kaku usually has an all you can eat lunch special, so I am curious to know if it will still be honored during this week, and the holidays..

I will have my wife contact the restaurant tomorrow, and see what they say.

If I don't hear from anyone I think we probably should move it back. That's the last day for my husband too because he's flying out early for a conference instead of leaving with the ship.

Plus it's Golden Week and they might have a restricted menu. Guess we'll see. :/

I hope you can make it when we do have it.

Alright, I'm game, just gotta get home early. I know Amber wants to come... so, me, ErinBeth, Kristy, Ali (?), Adam.... maybe a couple other souls? Would that be a decent group for everyone?

Toy, if we don't reschedule this one, we'll have another lunch next month, and probably a dinner this month you could come to. Please come to one, sounds like you'll be a lonely GW wife like me, ha ha (or just come hang with us girls one night!!!). I hope to see ya' in the future.

I would have loved to come, but my hubby's in town for just this week and we're taking the kids to the Science Museum in Yokohama that day. I'll be there another time.

ETA: What floor is Gyu-Kaku on? I'm actually planning to have lunch with the hubster on Thursday, and maybe we'll try it then.

Chancie, how old is your son? I needed some last minute childcare a week or so ago and the CDC was full for my son's age so I tried the main CDC and they got him in. You could try there. I know you're out in Ikego so I'm not sure if you'd want to come to base to drop him off before heading to the restaurant or not, but the main CDC is an option. Hope you can make it!

Chancie, I hope everything works out! You can bring 'im also!

Adina, it's the very top floor. I think there are only three restaurants on the floor so you can't miss it. Hope to see you at the next one, and enjoy your time together.

Hi, all. Guess we're going ahead with our meet-up. It'll be a wittle one, but Yakiniku is always fun.

I'm sure everyone knows where Gyu-kaku is by now, but just in case we have some newcomers, here's a map and info:

We're meeting at Gyu-Kaku which is located in More's City, on the very top floor, which I believe is the ninth.

To get to More's City from the main base, you simply want to get to Blue Street (the main street through town), and walk on the right hand side. You'll pass the Mikasa outdoor mall, and head towards Chuo Station. You will then pass Chuo station on your right, and soon you will see More's City also on your right. It's the large mall that has restaurants on the top two floors. There is also a crepe stand, Baskin Robbins, Subway, etc, located on the bottom floor, outside the mall.

To get to the top you can either ride the escalators or elevators up located in More's City, or there is an outside elevator that is located hallway down the covered walkway, to your right.

Simply take it all the way to the top. Once out, take a left and you will soon see Gyu-kaku on your right. The waiting area is outside the restaurant so no need to go inside until the group is seated. If you get there late, just come in and find us!

-We're meeting Friday, May 7th (uh, tomorrow!) at 11 AM. If you show up a little late, that's fine because this is not a "timed" event, we're on our own time.

-This event is family friendly! If you want to bring your child/spouse/friend, please do. You do not need to be a member!

-Gyu-kaku is a yakiniku restaurant. Meaning, bit sized pieces of meat and vegetables are grilled on the table by you! Very fun, and tasty for those pesky picky eaters.

-It will be smokey because of the grill on the table, but we can request to sit in a non-(cigarette) smoking section.

-Prices will probably range from $15-$25+ a person. Also, the sodas are charged separately and small, and pricey, just a little something to keep in mind because they can add up. We will be dividing the bill equally since we're sharing, but you will pay for your own alcoholic drinks.

-This place is made of win.

I hope to see some new faces! Bring ideas for the next meet-up!

I'll be there, Elizabeth, but it looks like I have to bring my little guy after all. Hopefully he'll behave for us tomorrow! I think Kristy is planning on bringing Derrick as well, so if Chancie comes and brings her son, we'll have a few kids at this one! Chancie, if you read this, you won't be the only one bringing a little one with them. Mine is 2 1/2 and Kristy's is 4. See everyone tomorrow!

Thanks everyone for coming out today. It was a small group, but we made it work. Yakiniku is always oishii~~~~

I think we should try for a night out next, maybe do another Izakaya with a set menu. That works out really well, 'specially with unlimited drinks, ha ha. We'll start planning soon.

Heard you guys had a blast.
Warning: Eventually, I WILL say something that offends you. This is perfectly normal. My recommendation: get over it.
