    Hello All,

i have seen on the blogs that some people ride their bikes to work to Yoko, but i dont see anything about directions or maps... i plan on doing this myself if possible, but would like to see the route. can anyone help me out with this>>> thanks in advance....

    Tilden,

Its quite easy to drive to Yokosuka from Ikego. You do have a few options to consider.

They have the yoko-yoko which will cost 100 yen and then an additional 200 yen. So each time it will cost total 300 yen per trip.

This may save some time you will surely find out living here.

The costs may add up over time.

There is one additional tip I recommend.

When you go to the 200 yen toll booth you will see an office on the left side. They sell discount tickets.

A book of 50 which normally would run you 10000 yen is only 8500 yen. So your tickets end up being 150 yen each instead of 200 yen.

In a months time it adds up so, just something to consider.

    Good luck with everything.

Please let us know if you have any other questions and welcome to Ikego.

Interesting... is that available for all trips on the Yoko-Yoko, or just certain legs?

    All trips. Both ways actually.

I definitely recommend the books. Those are the same books I gave away at the Japanbases.com event.

They have some cheaper books of tickets both those don't have any form of discount. They are just easier than using change each day.

The only one that gives you a good discount is the larger book for 8500 yen.

Taking the back roads would be best. I'm assuming you mean bicycle, not motorcycle. I don't know anyone who rides from Ikego to Yokosuka; it's freaking far! It takes 35 minutes by car, so I can't imagine how long it'll take by bike.

Good way to get fit though!

The distance is only like 8.5km from Ikego's gate to the main gate at Yokosuka.

I talked to a few people at work, and it seems like it is not too bad of a ride, giving that it's not raining. Google Maps has a few short cuts that can reduce the ride to 7.6km with a walking time of about an hour and a half. Depending on traffic, it may actually be faster to ride your bike (Vs. Driving).

Another option is to ride your bike on nice days, and take the train on rainy days. Train ticket will set you back 300 yen.

I have cycled to Yokosuka from Ikego several times and while it does seem far in a car, it isn't bad at all actually. From Ikego, you can get to 24 via a back road then right on to 16. Pretty direct shot. A friend of mine rode every day to Yokosuka, rain/shine, while he was stationed on the G.W. The only challenging part of the ride is going through the tunnel near the new Family Mart. The return hill is pretty tough.
