no offense taken, Sammygirl! It is going to be painful for us to be in the lodge for long! We are a family of 5...stuck in one room...

It's my understanding that everyone is on the same list but you have different quals. For instance, rank. There are more housing units available for enlisted. I think the higher the rank the more limited the housing. Another would be size of unit determined by family size. The open unit is run down the list and offered to the first person on the list that qualifies for that particular unit, and so on.

Dana, OOOOOOCcccHHHH!!! We will only be a family of four..... The good thing for both of us, I guess, is that since we are arriving in the summer time there should be a lot to do on and off base..... And if all else fails, we can always go to the on-base pool and throw our children in head first... :-)

From my experience, there is a generic list that everyone goes on, then they offer to you what is available in your room amt/rank category and if you decline it you are place on the list for the one you want.

I have a question about the schools onbase as well. First are all the schools on base, (elementary, middle and HS)? What sort of things should I pack in my pack out that I will not be able to buy on base for my soon to be 5th and 7th graders for next year? Are the kids allowed cell phones in school? Do the kids take a lot of field trips off base? What are you all's impressions of the schools? Are there any particular paperwork issues that I should be aware of in transferring there, (ie.... I know that I will need the kids' school transcripts, and I have a copy of our medical records that have thier immunizations, as well as our over-sees screening).... But is there any paperwork that I am missing?

Sammygirl. I have a senior in mid move, i emailed the counselor from the schools website and she was AMAZING. They are very accustomed to accomodating and answering all your questions thoroughly and immediately. Look up the schools via the OneStop site and send an email. They can help with the what you need to bring and paperwork info. Someone else with have to share opinions. I just wanted to brag on the counselors effeciency.

***Everyone is NOT on the SAME list!!!***

Not meaning it to sound rude or anything, I just wanted to clairify!! You actually go on a waitlist based on what you qualify for and rank. IE. We were number 2 on our wait list for 4 bedrooms, but the 3 bed room list was much longer... You can view the wait list and what number you are once you get here and are officially placed on it, by looking online, or by going to the housing office and viewing their Housing Wait Times book.

Don't bring your yard care equipment!! Your yard is small and it's kinda silly to bring a big mower and things when you have a "Self-Help Shed" located in each grouping of houses. They have rakes, weed-eaters, and mowers and I was told by the housing guy here, that you can get grass seed, and other things to make your yard nice. But there is a shed in each yard...I think it's more for yard toys and things like that though.

We use our "Service Patio" to park our bikes and they also keep our trash cans out there. It's kinda cool, here you don't have to pull your trash can to the road, they come up to your patio and get it for you.

Hey all thanks for the info. I really didn't want to bring my yard equiptment because it just seemed a little much. Now I know that I won't have to.

I will start viewing where we are on the housing wait list at the beginning of June when my hubby arrives. I know that I will have to keep on him to keep going by there and checking for us. But hey we'll see, maybe we'll get lucky. :-)

Is there any way that someone could take pictures of the exterior and interior of the three and four bedroom townhouses on Yokosuka? I looked at the pictures section and it has a picture of the front and the floor plan. I was wondering if someone could take pictures of the town homes from the front, side and especially the back yards. And could someone take actual pictures of the interior of the townhomes. That would really be soooooo helpful to anyone who has not reported over there yet to plan what furniture items that they should bring and what items that they can leave behind.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Sammygirl-
The schools are also now requiring a 2nd Chicken Pox vaccine, so get one if you're doing other immunizations.

At the Middle school, kids are not allowed to bring backpacks from class to class so a good binder/trapper keeper/organizer is a good thing to buy. The NEX doesn't carry them normally and the ones they sell in Sept. are complete garbage, so I recommend stocking up on quality school supplies. It's hit or miss whether they'll even have folders or binders mid-year so you really are better off buying them before you come.

Sammygirl~Chancie has pics posted of her 4 bedroom under the pictures section...And as she said, all lists are different...They put jr enlisted together then jr. officers/sr enlisted and civi's.....Higher grade offiers are in their own area...
We had housing in about 2wks but I was in the states so I didn't care...Tirani is right about the school supplies....it's hit or miss or if you see it better get it while it's there b/c it won't be there next time...That goes for commissary too....Where are does darn Special K drinks? They had them and I guess I should have gotten them at that time...
Many wives haved moved into housing w/out hubby....I moved into a cho down in Sasebo in 2007 and hubby left the next day...HHG came while he was gone as well...

I looked under the pictures section and there are only exterior pictures or floor plans of the Yokosuka town houses. There are interior pictures of the high rises, but I won't be staying in those. I was wondering if anyone had any interior pictures available for the townhouses. If anyone can post some pictures of the insides of the three and four bedroom town houses on Yokosuka, I would really appreciate it. (The scale of the inside will help others to plan what furniture items to bring and which ones not to). I am not really worried about moving into a house without my hubby; I do it all the time. He seems to always be deployed or on a TAD somewhere when it comes time to move in or out of a house..... interesting... :-)

Thanks for the warning about the school supplies! I have raided Staples and stocked up on school supplies for the next couple of years. I could probably open up my own 100 YEN store. :-)

Hi Al,
Just wondering if anyone living in yokosuka townhouse (4 bedroom) or Ikego townhouse (4 bedroom) able to get a king size bed in the master bedroom... I know with my family size if available we will be offered a townhouse. Someone here in the states told me not to take kings size bed. I would hate to buy a new bed before coming over. I currently have a tall dresser, the long dresser with mirror, one nightstand and the kind size bed in my bedroom.. Thanks in advance for responses ...

I like in a 4bedroom town house and I left my king size bedroom set in the states. The 4bedrooms are limited on space so I wouldn't bring it. I just ordered a queen size bedroom set and I only have the bed, long dresses and one bedside table. There's plenty of room in the 3bedrooms.

I'm in a 4bd in Ikego. I have a king size bed, double dresser, two nightstands and a drawer/shelf combo (drawers on the bottom, shelves on the top). It really depends on how many pieces and their measurements. I wanted to get a new bedroom set, but the pieces are bigger than what I have now and just won't fit.

so 4 pieces including a kind size bed is really too big? wow I would hate to buy a new bedroom set before coming.. it seems like I have lots of things to buy before coming..Getting kids cloths etc prepared... It seem like it will get costly... I wonder if I get rid of one of the dresser would that free up some space for a king size.....ummm

I just found some old search topics on here and it seems like everyone is saying leave the king beds... Is it a hassle if I bring it over and it don't fit to put it in storage there and get a queen bed from the NEX or something? Thanks guys for input and patience... Women we love to be prepared ...
