Yes, but if you live off base in Yokosuka it is possible (at least it was between 03-07) to get a waiver if you have a parking space for it. I lived off base and my wife and I each had a car and I had a motorcycle. When we moved onto Ikego I was not able to keep both vehicles and the bike. We sold a car!! We later moved up to Misawa and lived off base and were able to have my bike and two cars.

Off base or on VRO will no longer let you. In order to ride a motorcycle you must take the riders course offered on base. In order to take the riders course you must first buy and register a motorcycle with VRO in your name. In order to register a motorcycle in your name with VRO you must have no other vehicles registered in your name. It stinks and I am trying to find ways around it. It use to be that if you volunteered to be a safety instructer you could own a bike and a car but that no longer flies

This policy changes as the base CO sees it. If enough people make ICE coments to the idea of allowing a motorcycle to be allowed along with the car limit, and not count against it, maybe some good can happen. Ask eveyone you know that rides, has riden, or would like to ride to submit an ICE comment asking to change the policy. That along with enough support on sites like JB.com will show this is a real concern.

I'm all for change but we will all have to really organize to make a change with this current command. Maybe the next CO will be a rider....

I think it would be so much fun to get a motorcycle, but I never will. My mom would disown me.

    Plain and simple.

But maaaan, how can you watch this clip and NOT want one? Seriously.

I think I'll have to just stick to track days at racing circuits around japan since you can buy a bike to race and ride on the track without registering it. This will have to do to fill the void. After riding for 15+ years this is the only thing I really miss about not being in the states.

Had you race or done any track days before? I'm going to be looking into racing once I get there...

I'm not sure if all bases have the same rules and regulations about this topic, but my Sponsor from Atsugi told me:

“Vehicles - you're allowed 1 car per licensed driver (max 2 cars per household) and 1 motorcycle each per license driver, if you get an approved waiver from the base CO you can have 1 extra motorcycle."

If I understand correctly, my wife and I can have a car and a motorcycle.

I've been racing for several years in the states and I feel that it's the best thing ever. Your family unit ( wife and you) can own 1 car and 1 bike or 2 cars and zero bikes or 2 bikes and zero cars. You can own as many race bikes as you want. You just can never register them or ride them on the street.

I'm happy doing track days, but I always wanted to go racing... the problem is that racing is too expensive

    Do you race now?

Are those regulations only for Yokosuka? It doesn't make sense that you can't have a car and a bike... my sponsor has a van and a bike, I guess I have to find out when I get to Atsugi if they change the rules, I need both.

Your right racing is expensive. That's why it's on hold for now. Not sure about Atsugi but those are the rules for Yokosuka. I have a car so I cannot have a bike.
