Q: I went to Industrial Security Office (ISO) in May of this year to enquire about getting a guest pass. I had been told that I would be able to get a guest pass like they do for the buses. When I went in and spoke to the lady at ISO, she told me that wasn’t the case and after a bit more discussion, went on to tell me something about disabled facilities in New York. She then went on to tell me that everyone pulls on to the side of Route 16 and puts on their hazard lights and waits there for ISO passes. When I asked about this causing a traffic hazard, she told me to take the bus if I wanted to. I said it seems I am being penalized because I am able drive up to Narita to pick up my guests. She told me that if I didn’t like it, then once again to catch the bus. If I was to catch the bus, then my guests have until a certain time to at ISO and get their guest pass. When my guest was leaving, we went into ISO together to turn in the guest pass, as I had been told my guest had to be with me during this process. I asked them about the use of the red drop box that is available for vehicles at the out gate. We were told that my guest would be fined and I would be suspended from having guests if we did that. My husband told me she is incorrect and that no fine would be applied. Surely the red guest pass box applies to all guests who leave Yokosuka Base? Or, do all guests need to return to the ISO office?

A: First we would like to apologize for any words that may have offended you. That type of language is not tolerated and you should not have been subjected to such. In the future, if you feel that an inappropriate conversation is taking place, we ask that you please ask for a supervisor immediately so we may rectify the situation. Due to the lack of parking facilities and the location of the Industrial Security Office (ISO), we understand the problem that it creates for our customers. Unfortunately, there is no current solution in place for this problem that would not compromise the integrity and security of the installation. There are however, plenty of paid parking lots within walking distance of this installation. Regarding the Narita Bus list that is distributed by ISO daily, it is designated towards sponsored guests riding the Narita Bus which is currently the only sponsored transportation of this command. As far as the Red Boxes are concerned, we will allow ALL passes to be returned into the boxes; however, ISO will not be held liable for any lost, late or un-returned passes. For guest departing on the Narita Bus, all passes must be turned into the check-in counter and signed in the returned pass log book for accountability purposes. Thank you for bringing these situations to our attention.
