Anyone familiar with a software product called "Instant Immersion"?  I saw it yesterday at the exchange.  They claim to be more popular and more effective than Rosetta Stone.  The product cost like $30, had six discs, and runs on both PC and Mac.  I went home to check it out online & read some reviews, and when I came back to buy it the only one in stock had been sold.

I can find it on Amazon if I want, but I'm wondering if anyone has tried it.  Is it worth the $30?  I'm not gonna get Rosetta Stone (too expensive & I've seen too many negative reviews) but wondering if Instant Immersion is worth it, or are there any other recommended language instruction applications out there. I need one that runs on Mac.

I have a copy of Instant Immersion, but it more annoys me than anything else. I learned more from Rosetta Stone than I did from II. If you want to try it, by all means, go ahead. It didn't work for me though.

Thanks Amber. Hey, I'll never turn down free! I appreciate the offer. I'll PM you to set it up. Anyway, can you say what was annoying about the software?

Just Got Orders to Yokosuka and a last minute order swap too.   I downloaded the iphone app Human Japanese and also need a more advanced tutorial to de-redneck myself before I come to Japan.  A family member of mine is in the Army and when his family was stationed in Germany they had access to free Rosetta Stone CD's from the government.  Has anyone heard of this?

As far as I know, Navy is the only branch that does not "provide" rosetta stone to it's uniformed personel.

I'm in contracting and when I worked for the AF, I bought the yearly license for rosetta stone for the base, when I went to the Army, did the same thing for them.

But for some reason, the Navy doesn't (that I know of).

Off subject: After 11 years in Japan, I finally just started taking Japanese seriously.. I have a tutor who teaches me privately every week.

I feel you only get what you put into it. I feel sort of stupid, that I didnt study on my off-time since our last session..

Sucks I have to apologize to her tomorrow, and tell her I am as stupid as I was last week..
