I heard that some movie theaters off base play movies in English,is this true?also, are they more up-to-date with movie releases or are they weeks and months behind as well?

There's a movie theater with IMAX at the Lazona mall in Kawasaki. To get there, just switch to the JR Tokaido Line at Yokohama, then get off at the Kawasaki exit. Should put you right in the mall. For a listing of movies and times, here's the link: http://109cinemas.net/kawasaki/
Warning: Eventually, I WILL say something that offends you. This is perfectly normal. My recommendation: get over it.

Virtually all Japanese movie theaters play American movies in English with Japanese subtitle. They also play with Japanese language. You should ask the theater schedule for subtitle playings.

That doesn't mean they play Japanese movie with English language.

I assume you are at Yokosuka. The closest theater is Yokosuka HUMAX chinemas at Daiei shoppers Plaza.

One thing to be careful of however when going to a movie that is in English with Japanese subtitles: If you are watching a movie like "District 9" where someone speaks and there is an English subtitle, this will be in Japanese only and will seriously piss you off once you realize it. I'd do some IMDB research and ask lots of questions at the theater to prevent this (or at least reduce it's likelihood)
