Did you guys see this on the news?  Wow!!  Plane crash killing a president...

Could you even imagine what would happen if President Obama's plane was to crash..  Crazy news..  I feel for all those families in Poland that lost a family or friend in this ordeal..  Just terrible to be killed not on natural terms..

Its crazy to even get into a plane now a day.. I get nervous every time.  I always imagine..  Is it my time to go?
Now you have to worry about faulty equipment, terrorists, etc..

I just hope with the amount of hours planes are in use, that they spend a huge amount of effort ensuring the plane is operational to fly.  I personally dont think they spend enough time at it.

I had an uncle who worked for Delta for years and years.  I think he is retired now, but he used to tell me the problems they would be dealing with on the planes.  You can just imagine how those mechanics feel about their jobs some-days..  Tired, Stressed with personal issues, underpaid..etc..  Just 1 little mistake, and boom a plane goes down due to they missed a step..

It is very sad news.    I was shocked when I heard it on television.

I have never feared flying though......I really do believe that it is much safer than any other mode of transportation.  I'm more worried about getting hit by a car or scooter out in the streets of Japan.

The roads are so tight here, and all it would take would be one crazy driver to send me off to the emergency room.  Flying though.....it's more just a hassle to me than anything else - especially w/ all the extra security nowadays.

My heart goes out to the people of Poland.

At one time Poland was deprived of the entire army command. Chief of General Staff
of the Polish Army, General Franciszek Gągor. Land Forces
Commander Gen. Tadeusz Buk, commander of the Navy Vice-Admiral Andrzej
Karweta, special forces commander General Wlodzimierz Potasiński and head
of the Polish army operational command of Gen. Bronislaw Kwiatkowski and
Air Force Commander Major General Andrzej Błasik, deputy Defence Minister Stanislaw Komorowski and Field Bishop of the Polish Army, General Tadeusz Płoski. Among more than 80 passengers were also national bank president, and at least two presidential aides and three lawmakers, MPs, leading historians and many other country's most important figures.
And all this happen in 70th anniversary of Katyn massacre in which captured Polish officers and other citizens were killed.

It's so tragic, not only the President but so many other important people to add on top of the lives lost.

I can't even imagine if that happen to America, Japan... wow.

It's a terrible tragedy, I hope the Polish people will recover quickly and without unrest. It's scary to think so many of their top leaders are just gone.

If something like that happened to the US I'm sure there would be countless conspiracy theories... there's just no way it could have been fog and mechanical failure!

Tirani, I know in todays world conspiracy theories are the first thing people think of, probably If I was abroad now and got such news I would think same, but I am now in poland and i am witness of all this happening now and no, there is no way it was somehow planned to happen. First of all, polish president was not official invited to celebrate in Katyn this 70th anniversary ( prime minister got that invitation) but he wanted to go there anyway, so poles organised Mass in Katyn, and all of the ppl in that plane was suppose to attend that mass. Second of all, the pilot was said to chose one of the three nearby airports, but I guess and this is most probable version, knowing stubborn personality of our president, he was said to land in the Solensk, the nearest airport. This airport is soviet-era, poor eqiupped, facility without ILS, runway was too short, and airport was surounded by forest. Pilot went down loo late, there was not enough runway to land so decidet to go up, and this is where he cut tree tops, causing eventually the crash. this time was a pilot fault.

Oddly enough Putin looks like "damn, again poles would be angry on us" so they are trying to do anything to calm everybody around. he announced in russia mourning day, offered help for deceased people family, and more to come...

In Poland it is hard right now, but people alway feel more united in the tragedy like that, just like Pope died.
prime minister announced 7 day national mourning, all channels broadcast things related only to the crash.

LegoJohn, thanks, yeah, poland freakin' rocks :] this is not the first time, there is not such tragedy Poland would not overcome.
