Okay... I'm grateful for the free wireless access spots on base here at Sasebo.... but is it TOO MUCH to much to ask that they be @!%$@ING STABLE!

Get Emobile. You never have to worry about public accessing points again.

Can you use that as your Internet Provider, or that just for you on the go?

You can use for anything you want. Its slower than an internet provider usually, but I have both.

At home, I use JCOM, and a Wi-Fi Connection.

Then sometimes when I am at home I use Wi-Fi or Emobile. It just depends.

But definitely when I am on the go, anywhere, I have my Emobile USB stick to get it up and running.

I love just having the capability to check internet anywhere I feel I want to.

It costs me around $60 a month, but if you read the above link, from another member it looks like they may have a special going on right now.

By taking a quick look at "Testing Computers Bandwidth Speeds in Japan" it seens like Emobile has a better connection than Americable, and with Emobile you'll have connection everywhere you go:

Provider: EMobile - Wireless In Japan (Laptop Test) / Cost: $60 mo.
    -----------------------------------------
    SAN FRANCISCO, CA:

Download Speed: 3415 kbps (426.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 350 kbps (43.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
    -----------------------------------------
    WASHINGTON, DC:

Download Speed: 3295 kbps (411.9 KB/sec transfer rate
Upload Speed: 321 kbps (40.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
    -----------------------------------------

    Provider:Americable :=( $35-38

    SF,CA

Download Speed: 2758 kbps (344.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 243 kbps (30.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

    WA,DC
Download Speed: 2197 kbps (274.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 238 kbps (29.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

    just a regular internet service

Please help me understand why some people still use Americable? (sorry for thread jack)

    1) Some people may not be able to get signal inside the base with emobile.

    2) Some people may not even know what emobile is.

    3) What if they have multiple computers in their homes? Normally they have their internet connection plugged into a wireless router, supporting all their network home devices, but emobile would only be good for that 1 device that you plugged it into.

Possibly - I think you'd have to setup a PC for use as the router.  Shouldn't be too difficult if you have a spare PC sitting around and a handful of network cards.  But I'm not certain it would be the most stable of configurations.

And yeah... I'm loving Softbank's E-mobile service.  Though I did find one dead spot so far, but it wasn't on base.
