Hi everyone. I literaly just showed up in Japan 2 days ago. We didn't have reservations at the Navy Lodge until a week before we arrived. The only reason that we got the reservation was because I had an awsome sponsor that walked over and booked the reservation for us in person. So that being said. If anyone is having problems making reservations for the Navy Lodge on the Yokosuka base shoot me a message and let me know and I will do what I can to get you the reservation that you need. It's much easier to get it done in person. Contacting them via phone from what I understand is extreamly difficult. Good luck to everyone headed over here, so far my husband and I love it!!! Every one is nice, and when I say everyone I mean everyone!

Honestly, all you have to do is call the closest Navy Lodge to you (stateside) and press '3' for Reservations. You can make reservations for ANY Navy Lodge by calling your local number and speaking to Reservations. Note: Pressing '3' will not connect you with your local Navy Lodge however will connect you with the Reservations desk for all Navy Lodges.

I just received an email from a reporting person and they had a question.

WHAT OPTIONS do you have if the Navy Lodge is booked for Yokosuka?

Do they have to pay for out of pocket expenses at a local Japanese hotel?

How quickly will they get reimbursed, because the costs can start to add up pretty quickly.

Is there any other way to try and get reservations, possibly through a sponsor going to the Navy Lodge in person, and trying to reserve a room?

If you can get a room and the BOQ, they have better rooms imo. The Navy Lodge kinda sucked.

The Navy Lodge website always will say they are booked. You must call or have someone reserve for you. Personally, makes more sense to call the Stateside number and reserve yourself.

The lodge here in okinawa was booked when we first got here to Okinawa. They gave us a list of hotels near the base that we could stay at. The thing was is all the rooms were about $100.00 (or more)a night, They dont pay over your per diem rate ,anything over you have to pay out of pocket.

It took me several attempts calling the 1-800...number to get reservations at the Yoko NL. The website seemed to always say that the Yoko NL was booked. I called at least 6 times and each time the reservation specialist told me it was booked solid...even 70 days ahead or arrival.

The website is even more infuriating. After logging in at least 10 times (at different intervals over a 3 day period), I was told that there were no reservations. After trying to log-in today and being told there were no openings, I decided to follow up with a phone call to 1-800 number 10 minutes later...

All of a sudden, they have plenty of openings.

I tried calling directly to Yoko NL, phone just rang and rang (it was approx noon).

To be clear, this is just my personal experience with this process, make your own judgments.

From what I've heard the only way to get a reservation is the 800 number. Nobody ever answers the phone at the Lodge and the online booking is always full. Once I heard of someone's sponsor going by in person and make a reservation in person.

Hotel New Yokosuka is the one normally suggested when the lodge is booked, I guess because of both the price and the fact that they offer shuttle services onto base.

Be sure to have enough money to cover the costs of living for about 14 days.  You will file for TLA in 10 day increments after arriving in Yokosuka, and it normally will take about 2-3 days for the money to get put into your account.  Just as a reference, 10 days at the Navy Lodge was about $630 when I stayed there, so you would want to have at least $800 and plenty of money for food set aside.

I guess it just depends on the day...or the person...my husband called the 800 number and didn't have any problems getting reservations. Just this week he tried to change them...the 800 number couldn't do that, but a quick email to the lodge itself took care of that.

I emailed housing off the CFAY site with some questions about off-base stuff and they cc'd the Navy Lodge on the reply to get a reservation on the books for me. I'm all set for my hop across the pond in July! Well, at least I THINK I am ready for the trip... HA HA.

I've called the Yokosuka Lodge directly several times in the past 2 months. I've always had someone answer, and they're always courteous. I was calling to book a room Space-A which I can only do one month in advance. There was no room available, but they put me on a waiting list. The next time I called, the reservation was confirmed. They were always very nice on the phone.

From what I've seen, the website ALWAYS shows that there are no rooms available, so just ignore the website & call. Try to not call at their busiest times. I'm guessing this is around 10 AM when everyone's checking out, and 4-6 PM when everyone's checking in. I imagine they might be a little impatient taking calls during those periods.

Rules may be slightly different OCONUS, but this happened to me on the CONUS side with a different agency.

But basically, when they try to get a room and they are told that they are booked solid, they should still be able to give them a tentative reservation (when someone else checks out).  Then they should have been given a non-availability letter and attached to that letter should be other hotels in the immediate area.

I just went back out the gate and travelled down the road and got a "normal" hotel for the 4 weeks I was in class.

Either way, repayment would depend on their travel status (PCS vs. TDY/TAD).  If it's PCS, reimbursement usually takes place about 10 days documentation is filed.  If TDY, then reimbursement takes place about 10 days after submitting that travel form (I forgot the number).

(Also, keep in mind I'm USCS and the agency I worked with, all travel charges are put on the travel card - I was instructed that Navy does it a bit differently and really doesn't like travel card holders to charge their hotels on the travel card - but that's for another discussion)

I saw where someone had asked what to do if the Navy Lodge is full. My husband is already in Japan and was able to go to the Gateway Inn on bases and get us reservations there. Im sure you can call the number as well but its probably all about timing to get someone to answer the phone. If you dont have kids or have kids of age, I think its 12 and older, this is a good place to try. Be prepared to keep quiet though as the airmen staying here have to log a certain amount of un-interrupted sleep (hence the preferred no small children). You make reservations for a week at a time and then extend as you need it. I believe they also refund the days you dont need if you get housing sooner than expected. Hope this helps anyone who is looking for an alternative to the Navy Lodge!

I am currently trying to get reservations in Yokosuka and not having much luck. I am PCS'ing and will need a room for an extended period of time. Both the Navy Lodge and the Gateway have rooms for part of my stay, but not all...and who wants to go through the hassle of changing hotels, without a car, while trying to work during the day?

Sadly, both are booked the same 2 days....must be something going on nearby.

And so....my search continues. Thankfully it is only me, and not my family, having to deal with this. They won't be joining me until I (should) have base housing ready and waiting for them.

I would try to get on the waiting list at the lodge for your remaining time that you need, I've heard alot of people end up getting more time when they need it because things open up, so you might end up being able to stay the whole time at the Lodge and avoid moving. Idk if the Gateway has a waiting list for extra time or not, but its always woth asking. I was having the same trouble and alot of people gave me great suggestions for hotels near the main base in a seperate thread, so you might could find some helpful info for the 2 days you need.
