    Hi,
I'll be reporting to Yoko in a few month, and my sponsor had recommended I consider opening a NFCU account to faciliate my banking activites while in Japan.
Anyhow, I went to my local NFCU (CONUS)  this afternoon and was disgusted by the complete lack of professionalism.  At the information desk were 2 employees openly chating and complaining about how they don't like their job (1 hr prior to closing time) while there is a line of waiting customer.

Having been a long time customer of USAA and BofA, I am thinking twice about putting my money with NFCU.   How are people's experience with DoDCommunity Bank?   According to their website, they are operated by BofA.

I always did my banking at Bank of America back in the states. The Community Bank here in Yokosuka is associated with Bank of America, but not directly linked. We decided to stay w/ Bank of America, but we still have a NF account. I NEVER go inside, so I don't have to deal with the BS that most people complain about on these forums. I would recommend opening a Community Bank account if you have to go inside a lot for your banking needs.

That's Community Bank. I have 'em and I've never had to wait. There are pros and cons for each one, but you can ask 98 percent of the folks on here and they will tell you: customer service at Navy Federal is really, really crummy.

I've never had any problems with Community Bank (well, one: I wanted cool college checks with the awesome and MIGHTY NC State Wolfpack dude on it, but they couldn't find 'em for me. So I went with Tom and Jerry instead. I'm happy).

I have not dealt with NFCU since they were not very understanding of our situtation during Hurricane Katrina...We have USAA and have been in Japan 3yrs and will spend another 3....never had a problem and don't need a bank...
I get yen out from community bank or if I can atm off base then i go that route....
Stay USAA....they rock in claims....and customer service....

I have had NFCU for 25 years, USAA for 3 years, I ONLY use NFCU as a portal to deposit my checks at the ATM and then transfer it to USAA, nothing more. USAA of course lets you INVEST, BUY STOCKS, INSURANCE, so much more than NFCU will ever be capable of. NFCU had a service for me but since switching to USAA I have left them only to be an ATM service...the Community bank is great, never a line I think and run well, I only use their ATMS because NFCU profits if I use theirs to wthdraw, even though I am refunded the fee through USAA I refuse to let NFCU rip me off, as a military guy in Japan they should not charge fees like they do...

I think you can scan your checks and send to USAA but I have not tried, I would get the NFCU account for transfers if nothing else...

Thanks for all feedbacks... It is nice to know I can still utilize USAA for most of my financial transactions.
