I heard from some members here earlier this month that the sakura blossoms are already blooming. Has the Sakura Festival happened in any of the bases yet? Or will there be any this year? I remember the one in Yokosuka Base, year 2006. It was in front of the NFCU.

So it's gonna be at the same place. For as I remember, the NFCU is near McDonalds in Yokosuka Base. I hope some peeps can get photos of the pretty floral activity. Mhm! I've only seen one vid so of any Sakura festival in any of the JP bases up to date at youtube.

BTW,

I think the cherry blossoms wont actually bloom for 1 more week. I figure after this storm, and cold front, next week will be beautiful, and you will see people doing picnics in front of McDonalds next week and the week after.

Yeah, I think the flowers have been stunted by the weather. I've been doing progression pics and they haven't budged for a few days. >:\| BUTTTT, we'll be there enjoying... what we can. Please come say Hi and enjoy a drink or pics with us! (My husband and I are super nice, I swear, lol).

Oh yeah, it was still crowded. But I did notice there was less --we walked outside the Mikasa gate, the same as last year, and there was no one in line really. Plus, there was no one really picnicking. The park by the water wasn't packed like last year. :/

I am frozen from being out there all day. I think it will take me a week to thaw out. I don't think there was nearly as many people as last year.. last year you couldn't move it was so crowded. I'm pretty sure I saw Amber!

I got there at 8 a.m. to make sure I got a big picnic table for my Japanese students that were coming. We didn't leave til 4:30. I have the heat yanked up in my house, and I am still shivering. It was sooooooo cold.

Usually it is, John. But the blossoms were predicted to bloom early this year. That's why they moved the date up. Now it's saying that the best blooms are the 31st through the 9th or something. For this area anyway.
