Does anyone know how much money you make from junking a car?  If it matters, we have a Nissan March.  I know that you make money from it but I dont know if it depends on the make/age of it.  Thanks in advance.

You don't make money junking a car, unfortunately...you PAY money to junk a car. You have to pay a fee basically to say "here, YOU deal with this, we don't want it anymore" and they take it off your hands for you. If you have JCI left on it, you can get a refund, in some cases, by going to the appropriate JCI office for your vehicle make with a copy of the "junking paperwork".

It cost us approximately $60 to junk our WagonR when it broke down (it would have cost so much to replace the engine that it was totally not worth fixing it).

Most folks only junk a car as a very last resort, since it costs money...if people have a working vehicle, they try to sell it on base, or even give it away, rather than pay to junk it.

    I hope this helps!

This is not actually true. If you do it here in yokosuka its free. But there are places offbase that will give you money.

Contact Mr. Auto on JB. He can tell you which ones.

Thanks, Adam! Wish it was that way in Sasebo. But then I guess there would be fewer "free" cars for incoming people!

In case anyone near Yokota reads this thread, there are places here that will pay you to junk your car. We got around $100 for ours. It would have cost us around $1500 to have it repaired to pass JCI. There are businesses that advertise on yokota ads and apo ads that pay you to junk your car.
