Anyone know how to use the wall heater/AC units off-post?

I just recently moved off-post and was quickly introduced to the completely mystifying and counter-intuitive wall heaters/ACs.  Well, it's mystifying only in regards to the heater part, since every button I press on the kanji-only remote seems to cause cold air to blow in either small or large quantities.  Despite being promised an English translation by the realtor, I have literally been left in the cold.  The remote itself looks more like a calculator than anything controlling heat and AC.

Does anyone know roughly what buttons do what or can point to a handy guide?  Thanks.

You need the English translation instructions. I have two different brand-name units in my apartment and if I push the wrong button putting them in the wrong mode, I"m lost. My wife can read kanji & she figures it out. Anyway, each model & each brand is different.

Have you tried the Family Support Center?  Which base are you from?  The one in Yokosuka will translate it for you if you take a picture of it or just bring the remote in.

I just keep pushing buttons until I finally get it right!   So far, it hasn't blown up!

When we arrived in our off-base house, we had three wall units, all by three different manufacturers. We took the three remote controls to the housing office (though I bet you could go to FFSC, or even GIBillpay) and had them photocopy all three remotes, and write on the photocopies what each button was for.

I think you could do the same by taking a photo of your washer and dryer control panels and printing out the photos for someone to write directions on.

    I hope that helps!

I had figured out what button does what for all except for one. All I know is that it is some type of setting that remembers the last temperture I had put on it. But the one I use upstairs in our bedroom drives me crazy!!!! It keeps showing F93. I don't knowwhat that means but I'll like to try to fix it myself before I have someone come over. Anyone have an idea what it could be??? It's a national panasonic that's about all I can tell yopu about the thing.

I've got it down to using only 2 buttons: On/off & temp. My wife can figure out the kanji to shift from A/C to heat semi-annually when the seasons change. The only thing that jacks me up is which I pick it up awkwardly and accidentally push a button which gets me into a strange mode. Due to my clumsiness, this happens about twice a month. Then I have to sit in the heat or the cold until my wife can bail me out. She's priceless!
