    Hello!

We just found out that we are moving to NAF Atsugi in Sept/Oct.  This will be our first big move with the military as we have lived in Virginia Beach for 12 years!

At this point I am really looking for some info regarding the wait times for military housing at Atsugi.  Are the wait times listed on the website pretty accurate?  I am concerned because I have a dog and cat coming with us, and from what I have read, this really complicates things and could delay getting into housing.  Should I have my husband arrive first and meet him there later?  if so, how much later?

    Any info is appreciated!
    Thanks!

Hey congrats on your orders! My family and I will be also moving to Atsugi in July. This is our first big move with the Navy as well...we have been stationed in Virginia Beach for 8 years! I believe that the most accurate wait time for the housing is what is listed on the one stop navy website. I do know that a lot of the housing on base are Tower Apartments, they do not allow dogs but they do allow cats. There are also townhomes and garden apts. Those are the ones that allow dogs, I believe the wait time for those are a bit longer. If you are on facebook look for the group called Atsugi Military Wives, you could get alot of your questions answered there! Hope this helps. You can find me on facebook as well http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/kyriesmommy.

Ok. Did a little looking around.

    http://www.housing.navy.mil//onesto...aspx?bid=3

That will give you the "current" housing wait times... I've never found these numbers too reliable as it seems they update them only every couple months. But it's better than nothing.

    http://www.housing.navy.mil/pages.c...list&num=1

After you have applied for housing, you can go to THIS website and enter in your sponsor's SSN and it will tell you where you are on the wait list. But it also doesn't hurt to go to the housing office every so often and inquire about housing and the wait for housing.

I can't really tell you how long it will take, my process is a LOT different than yours, but I hope yours doesn't take too long. I find that if he comes over first and applies for housing and THEN you come over, it might take less time. But I'm not entirely sure on that, so if anyone else can give you that info, that'd be better than just going with what I'm guessing. I DO know that the flight will be miserable if you fly alone and have no one to talk to.. OH! Try to get United for a flight, they'll allow you to put your cat/dog (im not sure if they'll do both) in the cabin with you. Some people here have gotten to their destinations only to find their pets were deceased from the stress or another stressor.

With that said, hope this helps!

Thank you Amy and Amber for the advice!  Amy, are you still in Hampton Roads or have you moved yet?  Maybe we could meet sometime (if you have the time of course) since we are both going to Atsugi.....PM if you like.

Thanks Tiffany, and I hope that you have a safe trip!  I will be looking forward to hearing how the move went for you.  I have tons of anxiety right now about the housing situation and moving with my dog and cat!

Times for housing seem to bounce around. If you have a large family it'll be significantly longer because there aren't many 4+ bedroom housing options here.

We live in a 3 bedroom tower and got into our house in a little over a week back in December. Summer is busier and will probably be a longer wait time, though.

    HTH!

Hello everyone! My family and I will be moving to Atsugi in the next few weeks (just waiting on our itinerary). We've lived here in Virginia Beach for 10+ years and am very nervous. We have owned our own home for most of the time here and were very lucky to sell it within a month after putting it on the market. My husband says I am being picky when I look at base housing pictures and complain about the Tower Apartment cabinets.I know I shouldn't be though, anyway just wondering what the wait list is for town homes if anyone knows. We have two young boys who are very active and used to having a backyard to play in. We have been living in a hotel for a month and well, I see how frustrated they get when they can't just walk out the backyard door and play. Advice, ideas, and suggestions welcome! Thanks!!

Hi Jennifer. My name is Tiffany. We moved here in April from Newport News, VA. We also have a house in VA but we are renting it out. We have 2 children. We got offered a 2  towers 3 day after we got here but we had to wait 2 weeks to get in it. They told us since we didn't have any pets they would not put us in a town house. So we had to take the tower. I like the tower i have no problem with it yet. Friday will be 3 weeks we lived in the tower. If you have facebook  and have not done so already  join us on the group Atsugi military Wives. I also have pictures of my tower on my facebook page.
