GRRRRRRRRRRRR It makes me so mad DVD prices at the NEX are outrageously overpriced.  How do they justify their high prices?  Yes, I KNOW I can price match from Walmart, but I don't have my computer and printer with me when I go shopping.  It's a pain in the arse to have think ahead to print something up or go back for a price adjustment.  It just amazes me they charge on average $5 more for a single movie or $10-15 more for boxed set tv shows.

Makes me so mad!  I call BS on their claim they save whatever imaginary percent they claim they save me.

So do what I do: shop elsewhere. Unless you need something right effin' now...wait...that requires thinking ahead, don't it?

    Nevermind. ;-)

I should be able to go to my NEX and get a fair price on the products- not ripped off. Yes, 99.9% of the time I order from Amazon, get a good price and free shipping. But every now and then I look through the DVD's and see something that interests me and want to watch. I'd like to be able to pick it up while I'm there without having to go back the next day for a price adjustment to get $10 back. That's a good amount of money to overpay. Does the NEX mark up toilet paper, shampoo, clothes by 40%? Why are they allowed to do it to DVDs?

Well let me introduce you to the world of "PRICE MATCHING" I faithfully price match EVERY Tuesday when new movies are released. All you do is go to WALMART.COM(JCPenney's and SEARS also) print out the item and bring it in and they will price match it for you AS LONG AS IT IS THE EXACT SAME ITEM. I just purchased the Princess and the Frog 3pk(came with the Blue Ray,DVD and Digital copy) for $27.86 the NEX had it for $35.99 that saved me around $8(bread, eggs and milk)...LOL, so don't be mad just PRICE MATCH.....LOL keep in mind this is not just for movies it's for just about anything. Hope this info helps,

I think the point was that she/he shouldn't HAVE to do that. The NEX should have competitive pricing so service members and their families don't have to spend time researching and going back to the store to get the price which they should be charging anyway.

True, I got her point, and we shouldn't have to do all of that but since we do this is an option. I did this stateside as well too, I wished they didn't limit the stores we could use, why only walmart, JCP and Sears we shoudld be able to use any stores out there.

They do cost a lot. We've found Blurays for cheaper at Livin and stuff, which is redic. They are not competitive with media at all... which once again is a shame, because people would buy the s**t out of them instead of going to Amazon. Again.

Yeah its sad that you actually HAVE to price match. Don't get me started on the $349 netbooks that they had over there that you can get from Best Buy in 6 days for $249. Must be a lot of uniformed people, was like 50 of those things few months back, then were all gone few days later. So I guess the "average person" values convenience of getting it right now over planning and efficient use of your money, otherwise NEX would never even sell one DVD or computer.

But overall, we are fortunate to have anything at all. I have a lot of friends who don't work on the base who would die to have access to even SOME of what we have...so have to look at it positively too, its easy to get spoiled here

I agree with Blacklabel, but I'd change the "SOME of what we have" here to "USPS is one of the best things here."

I haven't bought a DVD at the NEX since 2005. It's all amazon or walmart or other places.

I'm happy we have the NEX here, but that's the second place I look when I need something (unless it's something immediate-need). Online ordering for me FTW.

Have you guys bothered pricing JAPANESE REGION 2 DVDs? Because trust me, if you're paying $25 a disc, you're in awesomesauce land.

I wanted to get the entire set of Aoi Hana, because I'm a huge fan, but ¥5400 yen, per disc, only two twenty minute episodes per disc. Total of 12 episodes. So that's ¥5400 x 6 = ¥32400 or $340 or so. Not happening.

Fifty bucks per DVD is common in Japan. I know I'm intentionally missing the point, but still... I WISH I could complain about a $35 disc vs a $25 disc.

I see where you're going, Seafort. We should be happy that we have stuff.

(it would be nice if it was better stuff, but I am VERY happy we have this at all!)

Stuff...now I'm off to watch George Carlin talking about STUFF. That's FUN-NNNY!

Oh, I understand the other side. And yes, I think the NEX should have someone price check themselves in the morning. I mean, it only takes a few minutes to do.

I'm just saying, it's been a long time since I considered $25 a normal price for a DVD, because when I do buy DVDs, I do it for specific Japanese productions. I mean, I spent like $450 on the KOR Remasters...

Totally worth it though, because I <3 KOR.

I thought the nex was suppose to price match. Why complain about prices? Can't you just bring a print out from online and they have to match it?

I price match usually, but like I said earlier, I don't walk around with my PC and printer when I go in there. I personally feel the NEX should give us prices at fair market value. I shouldn't have to worry about making an impulse purchase there and come home and realize I could have saved $15 from Walmart or Amazon. Sometimes I just want to browse through the movies, and buy the one that strikes me as interesting. But then I worry that I'm getting ripped off, look the price up at Walmart.com, print it out and have to back to get my money. For the most part I do just order off Amazon, but there are many times I just want to browse and buy something on impulse. I guess I'm the only one it bothers though. I guess what bothers me is that I shouldn't have to price match, they should give us fair prices.

I wonder if people would complain if their toilet paper had a 40% mark up? The NEX offers many items at prices lower than CONUS- name brand clothes, purses, books, why are DVDs so high?

I don't think that we should have to price match. I think that THEY should already price REDUCE for the convenience of those they serve. Is the NEX a for profit corporation or are they there to privide a service to the service members and their families. I don't get this concept of having to take the extra step....... shouldn't they be providing this service as a courtesy anyways. Frustrating.

I almost bought the COMPLETE Robotech series DVD set today-

NEX price- $110 (List was like $129).

    Walmart- $64.86

    That's an incredible price difference.
