To me, there's nothing like:

a) Driving over the bridge, seeing the city skyline, and knowing you're HOME.

b) Stepping out of the G/R train station on Elmhurst Ave, taking a good look around, Smelling the air, and knowing that I'm HOME,

I've been in the Navy close to 10 years, nothing else brings me closer to tears as knowing that I'm HOME, even if my family's moved 1000 miles away.

Raised in Deltona, FL (very close to Orlando and Daytona Beach). Most of my underage years were spent in FL, TX and England, though.

The only place that I consider home, and that has remained constant my whole life, is our Family cottage in MI. I feel so relieved when I see the lake pop through the trees when driving closer.

Oddly enough, we want to retire in WA state. Lol.

I generally think of San Diego as home since I spent 10 years there recently.

Everett, WA. Can't wait to get back! I for one love the weather. I'd take 10 rainy days for one beautiful Washington day.

The good thing about Everett is that there is Navy there, but it's definitely not a Navy town.

I'm from Lincoln, Nebraska. My parents and all my siblings are still there and I miss it (well, not winter in Nebraska, but the rest of it).

Mr. Verbena is an Army brat, so he'd either say he's from Ohio (where he was born) or Hawaii (where he went to high school).

We would like to retire in Nebraska, but that obviously depends on what sort of civilian job he gets. We could end up somewhere else, depending on where Systems Engineers are needed.

I'm from Tonawanda, NY. Moved to Virginia Beach, VA where I met my hubby.

Savannah, GA for me. I would hope that once my husband retires we settle down somewhere in the Southeast.

From the suburbs of Chicago...probably one of the most boring parts of the country.  The city is a lot of fun but living in the suburbs was part of the reason for joining the Navy.  I'd like to retire in the rolling hills of Wisconsin (outside Madison), but considering my wife is a Japanese city girl, that may not happen.

I'm actually from Sandy Springs, GA. I've lived in the metro Atlanta area for about 6 years. Otherwise I've lived just about all over. Manhattan, California, Chicago, St. Louis, Florida, Boston, Connecticut, Wisconsin, and South Korea. I'm living in Yokosuka now though.

Right now, we are in Sunny Virginia Beach (been here way toooooooo long now)....... originally I'm from NJ and Hubby is from St. Louis. Looking forward to the move in September.

So, I see this is a rather old thread, but I just stumbled across it. My husband and I are both from the Allentown, PA area. I see a lot of WA people on here. We came here from Everett a year ago. We were in Everett for 3 years and loved every minute of it. I agree, I'll take the rain if it means as much beauty is there is in that area. If it weren't so far away from the rest of our family, we would probably consider retiring there.

I am from Pensacola, Fl and hubby is from Houston area in TX....i wiill be making my legal residence TX once we are stateside.

Born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia. And no, my parents are not Navy.

Born in CA, raised all over the US (no, my parents weren't military -- Dad's a photographer, Mom's a writer/teacher, so when they got bored, we moved!) Grew up primarily in NC and PA with a sprinkling of other places (NM, IL, NY, MA, etc.) and a couple of overseas stints (2 years in Dublin, Ireland and 4 years in Sasebo, Japan). Currently in Norfolk, VA.

As for my Navy life, After school, USS Independence, Jax, USS Kitty Hawk(got married and lived in Ikego), Point Mugu, CA, USS GW(Negishi). Not a bad resume!!! LOL

I was born in Monroe, LA. moved to South Mississippi (I usally end up spelling it out b/c you wouldn't BELIEVE how many people as me what MS is...) then back to Monroe, then BACK to South MS, then to Shreveport/Bossier City, LA, then back to South MS where I stayed until I got married and moved to San Diego.

- That culture shock was WAY worse than moving to Japan.  Here I was, a little southern girl going from a place where, if my car broke down I was guaranteed to have someone pull over and help me with in 20 minutes (and chances were high that I would know the person helping me), to a place where they if your car breaks down on the "freeway" people honk and throw their fast food containers at you!

From there I moved to Bremerton/Silverdale, WA and then Pensacola, FL.  Pensacola was by FAR my fav duty station.  It was only an hour and a half from "home" and I felt much more comfortable there, and would be happy to go back...or at least that's how I felt before the oil spill ....  Anyway, I've been in Japan since the end of March, and I like it here.  I just wish I knew the language!
