    What tasty treats have you discovered from local shops?  Any food or drink that's unique to Japan you will miss when you leave?

    I love Tea's Tea apple tea.

    and Livin used you have peach water/juice that was amazing!  You could taste the fuzz.  It was in a white carton with peaches, but I couldn't find it last time I was there

    And those little Mushroom cookies.  yum!

    At AVE, I like the cream puffs that they sell at the small store in there.

    There is this banana creme... angel food... thing, lol, that my husband I really love at 7-11. It seems seasonal because otherwise they have a strawberry flavour. I also really enjoy the tuna and mayo onigiri from there.

    I really look forward to Sakura season and all the flavoured treats... Sakura chu-his and frappuccinos, anyone?

    And I always gotta try the flavoured kitkats. Had a big banana one the other day.

    We miss so much of Japan's food! I could go on and on about various restaurant dishes, but will limit this to snack foods. Specific snack foods we miss (mostly from convenience stores):

    * senbei (rice cracker snacks) in all their forms -- especially the nori-flavored sweet ones (weird, I know, but so good!)
    * various seasonal Kit-Kat flavors
    * green apple Mentos
    * the little mushroom and pine cone shaped chocolates/cookies
    * the little chocolate filled koala bear cookies printed with various facial expressions and outfits
    * squid jerky (it sounds gross, but is really delicious!)
    * the peanut and spicy chili rice cracker mix (I think the name meant something like "pomegranate seeds" but they were not at all fruit flavored!)
    * kurogoma (black sesame) soft-serve ice cream
    * onigiri (triangular rice balls), especially umeboshi, ebi mayo, mentai, and the ones with the spicy greens..oh, and the omuraisu balls with omelet instead of nori on the outside
    * steamed buns with various fillings
    * kare-pan (curry-filled fried bread)
    * shiso-flavored Pepsi
    * apple soda, melon soda, peach soda
    * Calpis
    * mugi-cha
    * Melty-kiss
    * those tube-shaped things like one giant cylindrical cheese puff, with various flavors
    * ramune -- those little glass bottles of sprite-type soda with the glass marble in the neck of the bottle
    * anpan, an-filled manju and an-filled mochi
    * ...the list goes on and on!

    ...can you tell we ate our way through Japan?

    I love the Morinaga Carmels
    Sweet Sesame crisps
    Sweet Potato Chips
    And the cookies with the slabs of chocolates on them that have little ships on them.

    I have over 100 kit-kats on top of my freezer from various places around Japan. I've usually buy two...one to try and one to save. I need to stop at some point though, I don't have too much more room.

    Oh, I love those cookies with the ships! As for the Kit-kats, have you tried the yuzu kousho flavor yet? Citrus peel, salt and spicy chilies!

    Our favorite are the small buckets of potato fries by Calpis. They are very crunchy french fry shaped potato snacks (like chips). They come in various flavors. I didn't care for the sakura. Pocky!!! Pino! Little ice cream bites. Usually vanilla covered with wonderful chocolate. Six little bites in a cute little box and it has a little plastic toothpick thing with which to eat them! Frozen bitesize balls of fruit flavored sherbet. Mu husband's favorite are the chou cremes (cream puffs). Our favorite place is Cozy Cottage. There's one in Mikasa Mall and in the grocery store area of Daiei

    What are the Fried Octopus balls called? I saw it on the site somewhere, but I keep forgetting the name. I know street vendors all over Yokohama have them, is there anywhere in Yokosuka that has them?
    Warning: Eventually, I WILL say something that offends you. This is perfectly normal. My recommendation: get over it.

    At the street festivals (matsuri)... the vendor that sells the whole deep fried potato. They got this thin batter on it, slice it in half, put a wad of butter on it and sprinkle it with celery salt.

    And while the shaved ice in Hawaii can't really be beat, the shaved ice in Japan is a very very close 2nd.

    Keith... there is a shop/stall below the More's that makes and sells them fresh everyday. It's in front of the little grocery store, all the way across the floor when you enter through the entrance.

    You can pick them up pre-made in the grocery stores usually, but this way you can get them fresh just like at the Matsuris. Mmmm.

    Oh! And I think they make them fresh at one of the counters at a Daiei food court... I can't remember which floor, the one closer to the bakery in the grocery store.

    We drove to Hayama and Misaki today/tonight. I wanted to revisit this sushi place in Misaki my dad took me to back in 2003. It looks like a Lincoln Log place (if you've ever been to Misaki you know what I'm talking about, right on the water). It was closed noooo!

    I was hungry so I stopped by a 7-11 and decided to try the purple onigiri. Well, it was a round one and dark rice. It was rice with soy sauce. Nothing more. AND I LOVED IT!

    I'm going to miss that onigiri oh so much. I told my girlfriend "we just bought the Japanese equivalent of Corn Nuts and beef jerky. Only difference? This isn't so bad for you."

    Believe it or not, I also like the cold green tea bottles. When I'm thirsty it really hits the spot!

    Wow I just seriously laughed out loud over that! lol! But I do have to come to the defense on both said items as they are actually good for you except the salt levels. Complex carbs and protein and almost no fat But as for me... There is one donut from Mister Donut that is SO good. The cheesecake oreo bars. The strawberry filled croissant at ChocoCro. and I'll admit the 70 Yen sticks of Yakitori in the sketchy alley by Sennichi Dori is mighty tasty!
