She can definitely use the emergency room but I don't know about the other services.

You should call tri-care. The 1800 number should be on the back of her tri-care card, or find the closest hospital and ask them where their tri-caree office is. See what you need to do to switch her if you can.

Emergency room wont do like, cold/flu stuff, and they will only end up referring you outside base is what i heard at aob/icr. When I went in to switch my insurance out for Overseas prime, I didnt have the Sponsorship letter and they said something about NOT being prime, only having the basic coverage which I think you have copays for. Not exactly sure though. I hope everything is Ok with your wife (whoever was lookin for this) and good luck.

If you do have Tricare basic (not prime) which I do as a retiree, for doctor visits offbase you pay out of pocket, submit a claim to Tricare, and get reimbursed 80%. It can take a couple of months to be reimbursed (by check only, no direct deposit).

However, we can also be seen on a Space-A basis at the clinic (Iwakuni has a branch clinic of Yokosuka hospital). We have always been able to get in Space-A though it can take a few weeks. If we call at 7:30 AM sometimes we can get a same-day appointment. Not sure what kind of wait you would experience in Yokosuka.

Medical.... yes you can. And Thai is right, it is a space "A" basis. However, here in Yokosuka, that is not really that big a deal. They'll make you an appointment just like anyone else. I've had two surgeries and 4 medical appointments here as a retiree and had absolutely ZERO problems. I did have to pay upfront for my off-base medical service, but the process for Tricare was COST minus REMAINING ANNUAL DEDUCTION = 75% of the remaining amount.

Dental? Whole different ball of wax. No appointments, space "A" only and that is on a DAILY basis. Basically, you have to show up at 0800 in the morning and put your name on a list. WAIT AROUND and if there is a no-show... in you go. If there isn't any no-show's.... back you go the next day to try again.

All that is BASIC. I can't speak on how it works for Prime.

Anyone had any luck with Space-A dental like Loki mentioned? Here in iwakuni they basically told me "don't even try" but our clinic is pretty small. How about at the other bases?
