I am going to take a stab in the dark, but the Atsugi Uniform Regulations probably mirror the US Navy Uniform Regulations...

Probably right. Just when people search for things, and they come up short, I post a new topic so in the future, someone finds what they may be looking for...

Not necessarily true. Different commands can prescribe uniform-of-the-day rules as well as rules regarding when and where you can wear a certain uniform.

I've been on bases where unless you were on duty or watch, dungarees were not authorized after 1800. My current command (the GW) does not allow coveralls off the pier (but other ships do

You can transit anywhere on this base in coveralls, and eat anywhere in coveralls. You can not enter the Commissary or the Exchange. Flightsuits seem to be authorized "everywhere" even though the official uniform regulation states that you are supposed to be in a "flight status" wearing one. I guess you are "flying in and out" of the food court to eat. Not sure what you would be "flying to see" at the movie theater in one after 1900.

The NWU is out and about, but some commands are not authorizing it for working near the jets due to all the buttons. The black 9" boots are not authorized for the flight line as they can pick up FOD. Question is: did anyone bother to ask Aviation what their environment would be like in these things before they approved them for everyone?

The green fleece jacket keeps popping up here on the helicopter pilots especially even though they are not authorized to wear any where else in the Navy off the flight line.

For the new E6 and below black and tan, women are supposed to make sure their tops aren't hanging out of their black jackets and if they are pregnant, the black jacket is not authorized for it at all. That is when the p-coat is supposed to be worn with it.

Sometimes I wonder if anyone is reading the Uniform Regulation Instruction.

We also have the CNFJ civilian clothing policy but I don't think anyone has read paragraph 7 about "provocative" or tight fitting clothing here.

I whole-heartedly agree; especially when it's not an operational reason (read: no coveralls allowed off the pier, not even to the base galley)

I cannot transit to or from work in my coveralls as my command does not allow it. Also, If I was seen out and about in my coveralls on base, I'd get hemmed up.

I feel your pain! I think that the flightsuits are glorified green coveralls with a whole lot of ego inside of them! (okay lest I get bashed, there is a lot of hours of college and training in them too) Then again, most wear them because it doesn't require ironing or looking sharp at all.

I've got nothing against the aviation field at all, esp since I'm an airdale myself. However they always seem to overreact to new uniform changes and their effects on the flight line. While I fully understand the concerns, I feel this time a lot of them have been addressed. They have a new 9" boot for wear with the NWU specifically designed for the flight line/deck. I have a pair myself, although they were bought in a box that was labeled as the standard shipboard boot. The buttons on the new uniform are no more of a FOD hazard than those on the utility uniform shirt in use prior to the NWU. In fact I would say they are almost safer due to the fact they are covered by a flap on just about every part of the uniform. Also the uniform regs state that coveralls will still be authorized by commands as organizational clothing, meaning they can still be used by any command as long as they are not worn outside the confines of the working area.
I was never a big fan of the way coveralls looked, but was a huge fan of the comfort, freedom of movement, and the ease with which you could change from them to a more appropriate uniform or civies. I'm glad they are keeping them around as organizational clothing. I also believe the flight suit should be treated the same way coveralls are, not likely to ever happen though.

    Just my 2 cents.

Actually the 9" boot isn't authorized for flightline/deck use due to the possible FOD sole, but they have a fix, as per the section of NAVADMIN 188/09 NON-SPARK SAFETY BOOT (AVIATION FLIGHT DECK BOOT) OCCASION FOR WEAR: EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, SAILORS WHOSE PRIMARY DUTIES ARE PERFORMED ON THE FLIGHT LINE AND FLIGHT DECK AND WHO ARE ISSUED AVIATION FLIGHT DECK BOOTS AS ORGANIZATIONAL CLOTHING ARE AUTHORIZED TO WEAR THE FLIGHT DECK BOOT WITH THE NAVY WORKING UNIFORM (NWU) WHILE COMMUTING AS OUTLINED IN REF C. THE APPROVED NON-SPARK SAFETY BOOT IS A NAVY CERTIFIED, BLACK, ALL LEATHER (SMOOTH), EIGHT INCH IN HEIGHT BOOT, WITH FOD OUTSOLE, LACE-TO-TOE CLOSURE AND STEEL SAFETY TOE. WHEN WORN WITH THE NWU, THE BOOTS WILL PRESENT A WELL MAINTAINED AND PROFESSIONAL APPEARANCE. PROCUREMENT OF THE NONSPARK SAFETY BOOT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ISSUING COMMAND. SAILORS ISSUED/WEARING THE NON-SPARK SAFETY BOOT ARE REQUIRED TO PURCHASE AND MAINTAIN THE NINE INCH NWU BOOT AS PRESCRIBED IN REFS B AND D. AS A REMINDER, THE APPROVED NWU BOOT IS A NAVY CERTIFIED, BLACK, ALL LEATHER (SMOOTH OR ROUGH-SIDE OUT), NINE INCH IN HEIGHT BOOT WITH LACE-TO-TOE CLOSURE AND STEEL SAFETY TOE. BOOTS THAT ARE CONSTRUCTED WITH A COMBINATION OF LEATHER AND SYNTHETIC (E.G. NYLON OR FABRIC) OUTER SHELL OR ZIPPER CLOSURES ARE NOT AUTHORIZED.

The Bellville 800 ST is being sold as the new flight deck boot for use with the NWU. My mistake..it is an 8" boot and not the 9". That is the boot that was in the wrong box and I purchased by accident. As nipponnap quoted they are essentially considered organizational clothing and not for regular use with the NWU.
