There is always that one (or several things) your neighbor does that REALLY bothers you. Whether it be the cigarette butts, loud music, or just laziness.

Adina started a thread in the "Rant About Something -Profanity Allowed" group that was very similar. I know a lot of people don't visit there so I wanted a wider perspective. Please visit that group if you really need to let some serious steam out, though. Lol.

I'm interested to hear those juicy stories and about your pet peeves. On base, off base, on the ship/sub, barracks, Navy Lodge --GO!!!

The people upstairs were nailing something at 10 o'clock last night. It wasn't pictures on a wall. I think they were building something. An ark, perhaps? I don't know. I know quiet hours are later on Saturday nights, but did the home improvement project really need to be happening then?

I know I may be a bad neighbor because I play music (off-base) at 10:30pm.... Which I am doing right now.

Whenever I work in JB I like to have my music on.  It makes me relax.  Sometimes I work late late... and I usually keep it at a decent level, but the walls are very thin between homes.

Also, recently some neighbor has not be separating his trash.  I know its not us, but since I am a foreigner living nearby, I think people may put the finger towards me doing it..  If you live off-base..  FOLLOW THE RULES..  Some guy, (base person) went and left a microwave out there on plastics day.  We found out, because someone told us it was a base person.

    LOL WUT, Softball!?!!?

And to repeat from the one group --I HATE the carts because people abuse them. Whether it be never taking them downstairs, out of the way. Or having six of them downstairs taking up the lobby because they're too cheap to pay for a taxi (and too lazy to walk them back themselves!). Someone has to move them --WHY ISN'T YOU WHO USED IT!? You're lazy and inconsiderate, kthanx.

Hey man, my immediate neighbors are great (besides the carts)... but no one is perfect, just let off that steam.

And I'm also hoping in a round about way people might read this and go "Hey, I'm totally guilty of that. Dang." And try to change their ways.

Like with the cart thing... I bet they don't think about the poor bugger that has to haul it back for them, or the neighbors that bring it downstairs so the old lady that cleans the floors doesn't have to...

I'll say something here, because I'm stuck in the Navy Lodge.

I hate when people on the other side of the door through the kitchet blatantly talk at the TOP of their voices, even though they are in the SAME ROOM. And then they do their dishes at 8AM!! WHY NOT DO THEM BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP?!?!?! I don't go to sleep until 2AM!! THEY'VE GOT PLENTY OF TIME BEFORE I GO!! >

UGH! I don't think people know that they are not allowed as per base policy to remove those carts from the immediate area of the base. I know I tried to do it once, to help someone bring groceries home, and the base MAs stopped me and told me to return the card and carry the groceries.

I was going to bring back the cart, but what I hate is the people that take the carts, but refuse to return them... I can't imagine being the one having to go tower to tower to collect carts just to return them half way across base.

my neighbors sucks because they scream at the top of thier lungs to thier children , i mean i can understand you get pissed at your kids or whatever but all day to yell ? esp at 1 am i mean hell those kids seem quite all day ive never heard them only the yelling from thier parents , but i think if your kids are being too wild maybe its because they are pent up all darn day in the house and they arent taken outside for fresh air - i feel bad for those kids and damn my lil baby is always jumping in his sleep because of the yelling ....

I have awesome neighbors now! BUT before we lived in our current house, the people on our old street would SCREAM at their kids from INSIDE the house, while the kids where outside playing! Walk your fat ass OUTSIDE your house, GRAB YOUR BRAT, and lecture them in the privacy of your own damn home! I don't want to hear about how DeAndre needs to get off his little brothers bike, before big mama comes out and whoops his ass... It's just rude.

the ones that live down and next to me...always out smoking and partying on their patio at 10 at night... they are talking at the top of there lungs and loud and their music!!! when the wind blows just right it fills my house with smioke and my house smells for ever. never can air out the front part of the house because of these buttheads. then we just got new neighbros up and across from us. they are loud!!!! same as the ones that live below them. then i think i have the neighbors from haites above me. they let their rugrats play ball with the hard plactic playschool round balls startingat 10 at night when i am going to bed/ then they must get an energy rush or something because they start to run across the master bedroom all freakin night and then one falls and starts crying so hard!!!! and then you go in to my kids bedroom and you hearupstairs bed just going at it, they must have it all the wall./.. at least my kids dont hear what we hear in our room.. i have gone up there before to tell them to shut up at midnightg and the mom just looked at me like i was on crack for telling them to shut up.. then i said i would call security and she got the hint... maybe it is time to od that again..

Ah...the yelling. I'm guilty of that. Mainly when my kid is trying to jump off the couch onto a tile floor, climbing the step tansu, putting her stuffed animal in the toilet, stuffing candy in her mouth until she's not able to swallow and when she gets caught she tries to stuff even more in her face to hide it....the list goes on and on. LOL! It's more of a reaction than flat out yelling at my kid though.
But I don't do it at 530 in the morning, and it irks me when they slam the front door shut (SUPER clear from my bedroom) and the teen goes screaming at a high pitch some mornings because she's mad at her parents or something.

For once in my life, I have quiet neighbors and they don't smoke/talk loud/play loud music/use their bed/yell cuss words/let their dogs bark at all hours/talk on their cell phone in front of my window. Those are just a tiny fraction of the things I've dealt with in the past. This is the first time ever that we've had good neighbors!

To those with bad neighbors: I feel your pain!

Simple solution to sucky neighbors: MOVE OFFBASE!

Sounds like 100% of all these posts are from people living onbase and surrounded by fellow Americans. Japanese are very aware of your privacy, and their need for privacy as well. My neighbors are very nice, and all it takes is a simple nod and a "konnichiwa" every once in awhile, and all is good...

Exactly why I miss living off base. We moved on base because of the insulation issue we had in the house we were in (and it was fairly new) and we had a newborn with stridors. No good. It costs so much to move off base though...which is why we are still here...sadly.

Well off base sure has its fair share of noise, too. Just not the same kind as on base.
Early morning advertisements..vroom-click vroom-click..(4:30-5:30am), 11 pm baths with plenty of bodily function noises, and I swear whenever my son was napping that loudspeaker would drive by over and over. Barking dogs. Neighbors yelling at their kids.(not in a good way) So while living off base had its ups, it wasn't all champagne and roses. Though there are things I miss about living off base, I just don't want people to think it's some kind of utopia.

I came here to complain about the older guy with a natural sweater that wanders the hallway in gym shorts, oh and he is a bit on the tubby side. After reading all the comments I should just complement him on his nice choice of chest hair and be happy that he does not touch me.

I'm in the lodge and a bunch of junior high or highschool kids are here for some school function. If you walk down the hallway on any floor all you here are teens talking, yelling, laughing, giggling, stomping and banging around in their rooms.......where's the adult supervision? I swear if I here so much as a peep from them after 11 p.m. They're going to get an earful of sailor speak like they've never heard before.

I wonder what those kids are doing in the Lodge? Maybe from another base? I think quiet hours start as early as 1000 or 1030. You'll be giving them a grace period if you give them until 11.

I think they might be from Okinawa. I saw one of them wearing a letterman jacket with an Okinawa patch on the back. Or he could have just bought the jacket somewhere....who knows. I figured 11 p.m. is good for me as I usually don't sleep till then...although the jetlag is killing me. So yeah with the little sleep I've gotten in the last week they should really take any warning I give them seriously.
I don't think they'd like me when I'm angry.  ::evil grin::

During the week quiet hours are 10. 12 on weekends, sooooooo... I'd be thumpin' on some doors if they were loud. A lot of people in the Lodge have to go to work tomorrow, too.

And why do people not hold the elevator when they know you're coming? I go out of my way to hold it for people because I know it sucks to wait when you have a hand full of groceries, etc. RUDE.

And unfortunately moving away never solves the neighbor problem. There is always that one a**hole.

    Thanks for the info Lego.

@Elizebeth...I'm an old fashioned type of guy. I saw a lady coming into the Lodge about 30 yards behind me with a baby stroller...I could have got in the elevator and gone on my way leaving her to wait, but I held the elevator just for her.
On the other hand I have been known to raise my voice from time to time.....so do they cancel each other out and make me just a neighbor...not a bad or good one?

But srsly, thank you for doing that kind of thing. It's always awesome when people just open a door for you when your hands are full. And of course blows when your neighbor on the 9th floor can't wait an extra 5 seconds. >:|

Tammy........hahaha, I know what you mean about the "vroom-click vroom-click!"  Although, I don't hear them that early in the morning.  Maybe I'm just a heavy sleeper.

I never hear my neighbors.......I hardly ever even see them.

The cicadas can be deafening in the summer.  They are soooo noisy during the day.  They sleep once the sun goes down, but are quick to wake me up as soon as the sun starts to rise (and we all know how early that is in the summertime here!).

When we first moved here, we got solicitors that came to the door all the time.  It was always uncomfortable because we never had any idea what they were saying.  We finally just turned our doorbell off so we wouldn't be bothered anymore.

We also have two yappy dogs in the neighborhood.  That can get quite annoying.  Our dogs don't bark, but I know if they did, someone would probably complain (just because we're gaijins).

There is also a house being built several blocks away from my house.  The hammering doesn't start until 9:00AM, so there must be some sort of ordinance saying they can't start work until that time.

Most of the time (when the yappy dogs aren't barking), our home off base is very quiet and peaceful.  I know if I had to live on the base, I would be annoyed by something every day, especially if I had to live in a tower.

I want to complain about some teenage girl running around in the hall earlier. It was 9pm, and she's down the hall and across from me. She is in her room, and I can hear every single word she says. She's screaming at the top of her lungs, then she comes out of her room, knocks on the door across from her about 50 times, very quietly, and then proceeds to scream that she has something to say, can she come in? She goes in the room, and I swear this girl is in the room on the other side of the room next to mine, yet I can still hear EVERY word she says. Then she goes back to her room. I guess her friend was blowdrying her hair or something, but she was screaming over it and talking to her friends, and I had enough. I went out into the hall, and walked until I heard her voice incredibly clear. I knocked on the door and politely asked her to stop screaming, I can hear her down the hall.

Couple minutes later, I heard her come from her room, and go into the other room, I guess to whine to her daddy or mommy that someone told her to shut up. XD

Amber, what was her immediate reaction when you told her to stop screaming?

Agreed. Her reaction was the best. She probably didn't realize she was being that audible. It just makes me giggle remembering the look on her face. XD

HAAAA, I'm glad you said something, Amber. I know teenagers are sometimes loud and drama queens (I was guilty occasionally), but when nobody tells them to "shut up" and act differently it teaches them nothing. Then they turn into those adults we despise, lol.

I give the kids on base the benefit of the doubt, but once they start using their daddy's rank I get irate, lol. And yes, this has been pulled by children and spouses both. Shame on you. Lol.

But no, srsly, I'm glad I'm not in the Lodge because I hear the Sailors are usually the route of the noise. O:

I dunno... it's been mostly kids and teens running around this evening that have been driving me nuts. I crashed after you dropped me off, and they woke me up with their screaming. -.-

The elevator thing drives me insane if I see anyone walking towards the building behind me I always hold it. The one girl in my building goes out of her way to hit the close button the second she gets in the elevator to avoid anyone else getting in. We were seriously about 5 feet behind her walking in and I was talking to my son so she had to have heard me, by the time i rounded the corner they were at the 2nd floor. So friggin rude.

You think that the hallway is an acceptable place to do your homework and blare Hanna Montana. I would rather take an ice pick to my eardrum than listen to that crap!!!

Also... is running up and down the hallway screaming really necessary?

The elevator is also not your personal playground!!!

So we've had a letter in the towers for about a week now... saying, "hey, if you throw cigarette butts off your balcony you could lose your sponsorship". Yesterday, Fireballfish and I come home from shopping in the evening to an upstairs neighbor emptying an ashtray off the balcony (we were walking into the building, from the car). Banging it empty and everything for the world to see. WTF? That's trashy.

And today people were having a party on their balcony, it seemed. They were noisy, but that's fine because it was within the appropriate hours... but then it calmed down and they were cleaning up I guess... we hear noises like stuff being dropped off the balcony, then they start pouring liquid off the balcony. Obviously pouring out empty beers/containers. We look down, there's sandwiches and plastic party cups at the bottom of the tower... yeah. Security was called on you lazy, disrespectful people. Thanks for keeping our neighborhood clean. I'm sure every apprciates the splattered beer on their balcony.

But Security left pretty quickly, guess nothing happened. But thanks for trying, guys. Sorry your time was wasted on them.

... that trash is soo heavy folks living on base cannot make it to the nearest trash can before dropping it. That drinking bottle or coke can must have a bit o' magic as it get heavier and heavier the closer they get to the trash can. Same goes for McD bags and candy wrappers.

I was coming out of the Ikego NEX one sumer afternoon to spy a table covered in used pizza sliced boxes, used soda cans and other sundry items.

I stopped the adult of the group and asked if they would help their kids (not sure if the kids were theirs to be fair) and the lady said, "No, there are 'people' here to do that." I was dumb-founded.

SO PICK UP YOUR FREAKIN' TRASH! I know it is heavy and there aren't enough trash cans around the base, but make the effort.

I feel lucky because my building has to be at least half empty. I dont have any neighbors above or on either side of us. We lucked out on that. I did have a lot of issues with the people who lived below us but they moved out a few months ago. I think someone has moved in since then but I didnt even realize it until recently because they have been very quiet. Our old neighbors downstairs used to blast their loud rap music late into the night, security has been called on more than one occasion.
We did have some neighbors next to us who got on my nerves very quickly because they played their tv so loud the bass would vibrate through the wall, there should be a restriction when it comes to surround sound, its very irritating for neighbors. The guy kept coming over to our house asking to use our phones and we would say we didnt have one. Luckly (for us) they moved out within a few weeks of moving in because the wife got kicked out of the country for getting in trouble.
