Why hasn’t the base MWR installed a coin-operated manual car wash?

Q: Why hasn’t the base MWR installed a coin-operated manual car wash with hot water and various soap and rinse options for those persons who prefer to hand wash their cars instead of taking them through the automatic car wash? The manual car wash could be used to wash large trucks, convertible cars, towed vehicles under repair and motorcycles and bicycles that cannot go through the automatic car wash. This improvement would also particularly benefit residents in the towers that may not have access to an outdoor spigot and hose for hand washing. From an environmental standpoint, having a coinoperated manual car wash would centralize car washing activities on base for better monitoring of storm drain runoff. Currently, base residents can wash vehicles, bicycles, etc. anywhere a water source is available. The residue from these other hand washing activities then directly enter storm drains and is not as easily monitored. From an economic stand point, MWR would make more “easy” money from another coin-operated activity that wouldn’t require a live body to monitor full time. Lastly, there may be less environmental costs because of better controls of the base’s storm drain pollutants. This seams like a win-win proposal no matter how you look at it.

A: Thank you for your question regarding coin-operated wand car washes. This is an initiative that we have done some preliminary work on, but it is not funded at this time. This would be a very costly project to complete, requiring extensive civil work regarding water, sewage, electrical, oil and water separation systems, water recycling and capital investment. This project is still under consideration.

Good question and answer. I wondered about this before too.

Can you believe some of these people? LOL. Why hasnt MWR installed a coin operated car wash with hot water? MWR waits on you hand and foot and you still complain. He says "with hot water and various soap and rinse options" He even want various soap and rinse options! Another thing, There is just about every kind of food vendor on the bases to serve your every little whim. Its not like your in Afgan, they got thousands of resturants outside the base for you as well. Allot of these facilities are paid for by the host country, including the water to wash your car youll turn around and sell in a year or so unless you decide to homestead. Need some hot water? heat it up yourself and take your dumbazz outside with a hose. Like its that simple to install a heated car wash. Where they going to heat the water? Thats a whole different system you know with major funding required. When is the Obama administration going to send an IG over here to see just how much stupid sh-t is going on?

I don't think it's an unusual question. It's pretty standard to have a coin operated car wash on base, all of them in the past we've been on have them. It's also pretty standard to have all the "various soap and rinse options". And it won't be free, so what's the problem.

I know I'd benefit because I have a convertible, but meh. I'll manage.

Valid points were made about why it is better to have self serve car wash vice a small, limiting machine. Nothing wrong with trying to improve the quality of life, especially since I'm sure all agree that things have been much worse in the past in that regard.

I have always wonder why their hasn't been one also, I know Yokota and Atsugi have them, don't know about Zama. I like to clean my engine bay at times but if I want to I have to go over to the Auto Hobby shop and hook up the steam cleaner and then take it apart and put it back in the storage area but I would like a coinop high pressure water system that has a shady area to wax and buff your car out of direct sun light.

It'd keep Adam's site going strong - as soon as this car wash system is up and running, someone will find something about it that pisses them off and up another thread will pop! =-D

I can only imagine the line this would create during the warmer months, especially on the weekends. Then the younger generations will start making it their "thing" to wash their cars as a group before going out that night. Then people will get frustrated with other people not going fast enough, or using up all the hot water, or anything else that can be thought of to complain about.

I personally don't want that "rushed" feeling when doing 3M on my car. Having someone behind me (like at the gas station) staring at me until I move isn't pleasant. I like to take my time, have my music on. I couldn't do that at the car wash...I'd have to wear my iPod on my arm.

For those who want it, may it up your moral and by all means enjoy it..just won't see me there.

k40t1kch1k, your car sucks anyways, so I can understand why you wouldn't want to use the car wash. =P

I wish there was some place I could go and wash my car properly. The automatic drive thru one is just a waste of money.

I'm also wondering why they asked why "MWR" hasn't installed the car washes....The car wash on base is ran by the NEX. Every military installation I've been on it's been ran by the NEX. I'm not saying they're all like that, but just from what I've seen...
Anyway...Pigeonman, this is your 2nd bash on MWR, and I'm wondering if maybe you are just not aware of what MWR does for the community. Might I suggest you pick up the FOCUS Magazine? The bowling alley, movie theaters, most food installations, ITT, free concerts, CDC, after school programs, paintball, among other things wouldn't be here if it weren't for MWR.

Your absolutely right! It doesnt matter if its a $3.00 car wash of a $6.00 car wash, they both are terrible!

I once did a $6.00 car wash, and when it got done, I looked and it was so bad, I had to go and complain..

The lady said, "Well here is another ticket, please try it again"... So I did.
After the 2nd go around that day, it still was TERRIBLE!

I just actually did this the other day (knowing they are terrible) but I just wanted to get some dirt of the new car I purchased.. It was again a reminder why I hate this thing so much..

Please install better systems like Yokota has.
