For those of you who can't wait for the summer matsuri (festival) season Uraga City will be holding their first ever spring matsuri.  The event will take place on Sunday, 28 March, starting at 1000.  The local band, "Buckle Cover" will be on stage with Beatles and Eagles music starting at 1230.  "The Anything Goes Band" will follow with the usual craziness; a mixed bag of American and Japanese favorites.

Since parking is not available, train or bus is your best bet.  On the Keikyu line, transfer at Horinouchi if you're on the express, limited express trains.  Last stop is Uraga.  The event is being held at the Sumitomo Shipyard and it's inside.  Just a short walk from the station exiting to the left.  Follow the crowds.  This is open to the public and it's FREE.  But you can buy stuff, too.

Oh wait....that's the day of the penis festival!  Oh, the choices.......Eagles or penises.

Scratch that!   Penis festival is April 4th, so I can make it to both! 

It's also the day of the base festival. Hmmm. But thank you for the heads up!

I'm going to celebrate penises on the 4th, too. 

Yeah, but there's base festivals three or four times a year. You can ALWAYS go to one of them. Uraga's is only once a year.

As for the penis festival, well...nothing clean to say that I can think of!

The last time I went to a base event that was open to the public, I thought to myself......."why am I here?"    There were so many people.  There was a good 20 - 30 minute wait for the food vendors.  And, to tell you the truth, the food didn't look that good and was way overpriced.  Lesson learned.....avoid the base like the plague during one of these events. 

Here's an update:
Exit Uraga station to the left to the stop light. Go straight on Rt 208 to the light at HAC Drug store. The Sumitomo shipyard entrance is on the left and follow the crowd.

Our bands will play from 0900 to 1000 and again from 1200 to 1300. You'll still have plenty of time to train it back to the Yokosuka Base event.

Elizabeth, just a note. The shrine's name is "Kanayama shrine" while the fest name is "Kanamara fest". They sounds similar but they are not the same.
