I think the answer is staffing. They dont have enough employees to make the service any better. Now the anwer is to get some of you that dont work and who send your kids to the CDC all day long while you do nothing and claim there are no jobs here in Yokosuka,  to run on down and apply at Chilis so that the rest of us can get a quick meal there. Problem solved!

word.
Warning: Eventually, I WILL say something that offends you. This is perfectly normal. My recommendation: get over it.

I wonder if a boycott of the restaurant would make any kind of difference. If the owners are truly worried about making a buck, then hit them where it HURTS. I would feel terrible for the servers and staff, but if a boycott is the only way to change it, then I think it could be worth it in the long term - especially to get rid of that ridiculous tip share idea.

Kawaii - do you have to share/report cash tips as well? Now that I know some of the background, I am willing to be a little more patient and forgiving with the staff. My policy has always been that I only tip for service above and beyond the absolute necessary (drinks, food, and bill) - but if cash tips are not shared or reported, I am willing to chip in a bit more.

I believe the only solution is to mass flood the base and business with billions of complaints and add in the boycott. I would even go so far as to suggest a picket line, just on the outrage of the tip share and price hiking. Kudos to the people who still work there and put up with that BS. I'm personally offended that the base WONT do anything about it.

I must be in the minority here. My wife and I are staying in the Navy Lodge and have eaten at Chill's 3 times now, each time the service was on par with the service I received in CONUS. The staff was attentive, the food arrived timely, my ice tea was kept topped off etc. If I was looking for something to complain about I'm sure I could have found something. The food was what I would expect from a chain place, good but not great.

As for the wait time, I was always showed to a table on arrival.

I just came from Chilli's, I didn 't have any issues.

I almost wonder is staffing levels are low because there aren't that many ships in port. They said it has been very slow all summer. Based on what I know of the hospitality industry, you cut staff when there aren't many people coming in and sometimes service suffers. It is a product of the economy.

Nobody's much mentioned breakfast at Chilis. I went there today for breakfast (I'm visiting from Iwakuni). No crowd, they had a college game on (not too loud) so it was a nice environment. Staff was courteous. I was greeted & seated promptly. They kept my coffee & water filled, which is my biggest gripe at most restaurants. I had some kinda Big Mouth Turkey Sandwich, that was huge & delicious & reasonably priced. In short, no complaints; I would go back.

I find it odd there are two ongoing threads about Chili's on JB.com: One is ripping the food & service, the other gripes about lack of parking & reserved spots. Anyone else see the irony here? Maybe it's just me.

I've wondered about the breakfast there...  But I'm usually at home on the weekends when they're serving.  NOT going to make a special trip into base to eat breakfast there.  I can cook up some mean, well, pretty much anything.

It's a decent video, but I find it hilarious that of all the cool things one can say about being stationed in Japan, they choose to focus on Chilis. How is that the high point of the Land of the Rising Sun?

I would never eat in a Chilis in the States. Why anyone want to eat at a Chilis in Japan? Am I missing something?

I dont mind the food.... The prices are high I think compared to other restaurants on base. I care a lot about customer service! The times I have been there, its catch or miss.... I understand the waiting to get in.. But I dont understand long waiting periods to get my drinks, or appetizers..
