Being an avid Indian food dude, I ventured out into the Honch tonight and ran into a new Indian Restaurant called "Delicious."  The place is pretty close to the Blue Street, and on the third Honch street from the base (sorry I can't give you the exact street name).  Anyway, I ordered Spinach Chicken with Cheese Nan (yes, that's right, Cheese nan), and a mango lassie.  The owner of the place threw in the lassie for free after asking me if I could give out a few flyers to my friends.  I told him that I would do better than that and put in the good word for my on Da' Ole Web Site herein.   I paid 1,100 Yen for a decent meal.   Oh, one more thing.  He doesn't allow smoking there, so it's not a place for the cancer stick crowd.   I will definitely be returning soon.   Hopefully there will be belly dancers for entertainment by then (just kidding, but you never know what the guy will come up to lure the sailors in there).

MMmmm.....I like Indian food. Costco also sells a pre-made Indian dinner for 1,000Y. There are 3 different curries in it, along with 2 large pieces of naan. I haven't been to this restaurant above, but I'm sure it is a lot more authentic and delicious than the one from Costco. But, if you're looking for a quick, cheap meal....the one at Costco is a good alternative! The meal is good for two people.

Tirani - There are about 12 tables in the place and I would say that kids would be welcome, even though I didn't see any there when I was there. Worth checking out if you like Indian food. I actually prefer Moti in Kamiooka, but it's kinda' of far.

Nirvana, on blue street near Mikasa mall is really good (right side of the street on the way to Chuo station, downstairs). Just past Chuo station, (right at the intersection and then up on the left) is another one called BayLeaf (www.yokosukaindian.com) which is also really good. Bayleaf has a set course menu that can be ordered by the whole table and involves a ton of food. four curries, lassies, unlimited naan, tandoori chicken, and dessert. Next time I go there I will not eat for a day before, haha.

There are two Indian restaurants in Kamakura. One on right on the beach and one is almost to big shrine right on the main street. Both are pretty good and seem like they would have room for children, especially the one on the beach.

Appughar (www.appughar.co.jp) is the one on the beach.
Moni's (goodpia.geocities.jp/indian_monis) is the one near the big shrine.

We keep meaning to go here! All the reviews have been good so far, I'm looking forward to it.

I second a rec on Bay Leaf, it's awesome. One of the set meals (around 2,000 yen), is enough to feed you for like 2 days... so come hungry! The naan is huge and could be a meal itself.

I've been to the one on the beach and to Nirvana. Both were fine, but not quite what I was after. I think my problem is my fave dish, Pasanda, is more Pakastani. Having just moved from England, where the national dish is Indian Curry, it's hard to find a place that measures up to what I'm used to, lol. There's also one on the beach in Hayama that's put an ad in the Seahawk. I keep meaning to try it out- it's a bit closer than Kamakura for me.

Kamiooka also has one in it's station, up on the floor with the other eatery's.

Also... If anyone ever goes to TAMA PLAZA (big mall, etc...) they have an AWESOME Indian place there as well.

T-Side in Kamakura is my favorite. The owner is and and Indian who has lived in Texas, and now in Japan. He Speaks English well, and it's within walking distance of the train station. There is also a English menu, and set menus. The Stars and Stripes did a review on it a couple of years ago: http://www.stripes.com/article.asp?...icle=46960

All this talk about Indian made me go out and try the Parasol Indian on 134. It's a bit classier than the place in Kamakura- silver flatwear and vases, the waiters are all in pin stripe trousers and vests, food served on "European china". The place is bright and open, with windows and a deck overlooking the water (and houses across the street) They have several lunch sets from 1100-1500 yen. Stand alone meal dishes run in the same price range, so naan and rice are extra (350 yen each). They have a pretty extensive menu and photos of most items- it's also all in English.

Another American couple were there today too and they said it was their favorite spot. I recommend it as a nice date place.

Thanks guys for sharing the Indian restaurants in the area. I didn't think this would generate this much interest, but I was pleasantly wrong! I've eaten at Bayleaf and I found the portions to be too much and the prices too high. I guess that's because of the owner wanting to please we Americans who eat more than the local populace. What's up with place on Rt. 16 near Mike's? I've never seen a place like that.

If they are seriously interested in having bellydancers (although I have only danced in Arabian restaurants, not Indian.) I can give them my information. I am a professional bellydancer, and will start teaching on Base in March, and also at Gold's Gym in April.
I just ate lunch there today(@Delicious)..I am from the UK, so haha yes, I know my curries.. I got hot veggie curry, which was a comfortable spiciness, I could probably go up a notch. Their naan bread was the best! We spent around $17 for lunch for two. Moti is really good too..it is right inside Kamiooka station in (In the Keikyu Mall), so a good place to go on a cold/rainy day.
Appughar was better when they were in Hayama(when I lived here before a few years ago)..seems too commercialised now. Still good though. Another good place in Hayama, is Indian Parasol..they have the best samosa's in my opinion.
Hmm, Was so happy to return to Japan a few months ago, and find so many Indian Restaurants.

Alright, we finally stopped in for dinner and it was great. Their dinner packages were a great deal, I got the smaller one with salad, samosa, papad, 2 curries, naan, rice and desert --"Ledies" set for 1200 yen. It was a lot to eat.... but my husband got the "Delicious" set for 1600 yen and it was too much, so come hungry! They also substituted our juices for beer when we ordered a couple rounds of drinks (without asking) --awesome!

So really tasty, cheap and close --please visit!

I've been to the one on the beach and to Nirvana

Nirvana will be at the event march 19th!!!

They will be serving food.. They will also be giving away free lunch tickets! I ate there for lunch today. It was amazing at Nirvana! I really enjoyed their food.. I dont eat too much Indian food, I think it was only my second time in 10 years for Japan.. but honestly, I really did like their food.

Nirvana's is actually Nepali food, but Nepali people are a mix of Chinese and Indian, so it's essentially the same thing. Either way, I told you that you would love the food. It's soooooooo much better than coco's.

Yes it was excellent.. Better than I expected.. Coco's is just okay.. I think once you live here as long as I have, you start to get tired of it..

I am interested in Indian food now though.. That bread he served me was HUGE!

Can anybody give me super-easy walking directions from the base to "Delicious"? My family and I have been here for a few weeks, but I've been at sea for most of that time. I'm back now and we're looking for an Indian Thanksgiving experience!

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Delicious is right off of Blue Street --which is the main street in town that Chuo station is located on farther up.

If you leave the main gate --cross the foot bridge across 16. Take the left direction once off the bridge along 16 (you'll pass the Morigan's Bar and such). And of course once on Blue Street you'll take a right. Before the Mikasa mall there are two side streets to take on the right hand side. Pass the first side street and then once at the second one (there is a Ringer Hut on the corner) --take a right and keep right. Delicious is only a few shops down. Right next to Geodana's Latin restaurant --kinda across from a flower shop.

Super easy to get to. They have cheap sets with lots of food. Geodana's is tasty also!
