My family is PCSing at the end of April. We tried reserving the NAVY Lodge online, but it said there was no room, so we called and were told the same thing. I thought, it had been reserved back in January, by our Sponsor, he said he took care of that, but I guess not. They said to call everyday to check for cancellations, which I will do, but I am wondering where else people stay when the Lodge is full? For some reason I never thought that would happen, but surprise, surprise, here I am. We have a little one who is 2, I hear the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites is off limits to families with kids so small, so your input, PLEASE!?!?

I would suggest Hotel Yokosuka (chain = four diff locations) or Hotel YRP (this one is further from the base, but will be much cheaper..it is close to a train station) and hope you can get a Navy Lodge room. The price goes up dramatically when you have to go off base. Definitely check to ensure you are entitled to reimbursement prior though as I believe it would be around $110 a night (or more). I would think if you got a non-availability stamp from the base's housing office or Navy Lodge (I don't know who would issue it)...then your command should reimburse you. (again just my opinion as I am not sure...definitely get your facts from the command).

The further you go from base the cheaper that it will be but youll definately get reimbursed. The problem is that japanese hotels are twice as expensive and only about half as nice and half as small.

Yea, they are all right. make sure you get an letter of non availability. This will ensure that you will be reimbursed by the navy. I would suggest you stay at Hotel New Yokosuka as they have access to base and can give you a ride in the morning and pick u up at night.

What elzey said. My friend stayed at Hotel New Yokosuka and said it was good (not great, not awful). The shuttle to and from the hotel was helpful. WELCOME TO YOKOSUKA HI HI HI!

We had to stay at what was then the Hotel Trinity. It has a new name now, which I am not sure what it is. But it's across from the Daiei Shoppers Plaza just down the street from the base. It's a very, very nice hotel. The first night we were in these two rooms that were totally taken up by the beds. We had 16 pieces of luggage! So we asked about bigger rooms and got two corner rooms that had two twin beds and a sitting area. It was very nice. WE had to stay 2 weeks and ended up paying about $1,000 out of pocket because it was more than our allowance.

My husband is already in Japan and was able to go to the Gateway Inn on bases and get us reservations there. Im sure you can call the number as well but its probably all about timing to get someone to answer the phone. If you dont have kids or have kids of age, I think its 12 and older, this is a good place to try. Be prepared to keep quiet though as the airmen staying here have to log a certain amount of un-interrupted sleep (hence the preferred no small children). You make reservations for a week at a time and then extend as you need it. I believe they also refund the days you dont need if you get housing sooner than expected. It is also very cheap compared to other hotels in Japan, about $55 a night. Hope this helps anyone who is looking for an alternative to the Navy Lodge!

This weekend, I had the pleasure of staying at the Air Force Lodge in Yokota. For $50 a night, I got to stay in a 3 bedroom tower apartment with a full kitchen, washer and dryer, and WiFi Internet. Never again will I stay at the Navy Lodge. For what they charge and for what you may or may not get, I would rather get a room anywhere else out in town.

Yokota has always had nicer facilities than Yokosuka.  I don't know why, but it always seems like e/thing is falling apart on this base......take a look at the Purdy Gym.  The mirror has been broken in the weight room for as long as I can remember (not to mention the fact that it's a safety hazard w/ broken glass where people can brush up against it).  It's ridiculous that the base doesn't put the money into fixing up things that are either broken or falling apart like they do on Yokota.

So far I have found locating a hotel...challenging. I report to Yokosuka the beginning of October and will require a room for possibly a month while I attend indoc and stuff. Thankfully my family is staying in VA until December, which will enable me to secure housing before they arrive. I hope.
Any suggestions? I am assigned to a ship in Yokosuka. I am unable to stay onboard until after indoc so I am told.

    Thanks for any info!

Go search "Good Hotels Near Main Yokosuka Base"....I started that topic becuase I was having the same trouble and alot of people gave me such helpful information including websites for hotels, hotel names and any info they had. The Mercur looked pretty reasonable to me and was one of the best I looked at. Keep in mind though that Japanese hotel rooms are small and more expensive than what we're used to in the states.

Is this hotel actually near base? I am looking for something as close to base as possible for I am visiting my husband while his ship will be in port there. Of course the Navy Lodge is full and we can't know if the Gateway in will be available until 30 days out.
    I will also look up

    New Yokosuka
    Central Hotel
     and any other recommendations

Which hotel is closest to the main base gates?

    Thank you!

New Yokosuka is the closest (can also be the noisiest if you have a room facing the street).

Mercur is quite close, easy walking distance. It's a very nice hotel. Sign up for their email newsletter; they are always sending out discounts & promotions up to 50% off.

Would not the housing office for inbound service members have a website with a link, maps, email etc. to all nearby approved lodging when the on-base system is at full capacity?

It seems so easy these days what's the issue?

Yokota - Yeah not so fast there smart guy. Most (99%) of the hotels that show up in your link are in Yokohama - Not Yokosuka. Great for people who know their way around - not so good for the noobs.

From the left we have the Hotel Harbour, the Mecure, The New Yokosuka, Central and the Yokosuka Hotel.

Hotel Harbour is I believe one of the oldest and the Hotel Yokosuka is right next to the hospital so they should be the last on your list.

There is a walking gate across the street from the Mecure (behind the Daiei) and the Hotel New Yokosuka is  directly across from the main gate.

My point here is in just few spare minutes we have identified how to post hotels, paste maps and even proofed the concept wouldn't it seem reasonable that your housing office(s) and base leadership could place a little emphasis on taking care of your new inbound service members in the same manner?

THank You all for your quick responses!

I am not looking into these because I am moving, I am looking into them for leasure. My husband will still have to work everyday on the ship so that's why I asked what's the closest to base.
Is the back gate or front gate closer to the where the ships are docked? Or does it not matter at all?

The entrance close to the mall is probably the closest, but it's only open certain hours of the day. And I wouldn't suggest using any of these hotels for leisure. If you work on Yokosuka base, and you want somewhere to get away for a day or two, I suggest trying the New Sanno in Tokyo. It's DOD run, and extremely cheap.

Yeah, and next thing you know some hotel not on the list is complaining about unfair business practices & US interference in free trade.  Like anyone in a leadership position is going to stick their neck out & take a chance.

Again, if the offices on base did what it took to take care of Sailors & their families then there wouldn't be a JB.com. Heaven forbid that someone should actually make the sponsor program work the way it did "back in the day".

Plus most of those hotels near the base have DOD civilians that are TDY here filling them all up. Not all of them are on the dayshift either so they are always active. Plus I hear the hello lodge, New Yoko and the like near the Honch are terrible when it comes to noise level at night. Something about sailors and bars? Then there is the Central hotel that overlooks the Yokosuka-Cho station. Coworkers of mine on the 7th floor have been complaining about the trains since they've been here 6 months ago.

I agree with Evan, if you want a leisurely stay go with the New Sanno. Yes, the mall entrance is closer to the piers. Main gate and Womble gate are about the same distance to the piers pending on which pier you want to go to. I say it depends on which direction you're coming from. Womble from the South and Main from the North.

There is a Hello Lodge by the wamble gate that is much quiter than the one in the "honch" section but DOUBLE Check that you will be paid for it

I woud suggest you call the navy lodge 2 or 3 times a day - when were there this spring and trying to get an extenstion but couldn't becaues it was all booked....i would go to the lobby every couple of hours and they would look and eventually i would get my extension for a day or two or I'd hit the jack pot and get a whole week! The navy lodge is still under renovation and they have about 2 floors closed - so it is tight in there but keep calling and calling and calling and don't worry about driving them crazy you need a room you know you will get reimbursed for

GOOD LUCK! once you get out of the navy lodge and into a house/apt - life will be good - japan is awesome ------ Navy housing office is not ---
