    Please check the link below:

    http://www.lmo.go.jp/english/index.html

As long as you have a vaild Alien Registration card and resident of the City (ex. Tokyo) then you can apply for MLC or IHA positions. Further details are explained in the link.

    Hope this helps out.
    Thanks,
    Dave

As far as I know, you have to have permanent residency in order to qualify for an MLC position, unless you're a Japanese citizen. If you have a spouse visa, you can apply for IHA positions. Hope that helps!

    Hello everyone,

I hoping I can get a straight answer about my dilemma here. Here is my problem.......A year ago, my Japanese wife got a job on Ikego which was a contract job MLC. I had just arrived to Japan and got a contractor job on Yokosuka. We were both working and all was fine and dandy. No issues with her and me working at the same time on a military installation.

However, my wife's position went from contract to permanent. My wife was very happy. Since it became permanent, she had to reapply for the same job online. I guess per law they have to make the position public and conduct interviews again. Anyways, she applied and got called for an interview and passed the interview.

But then she got a call from HRO stating she is not eligible for the job simply because I'm a contractor on base. My wife lost her job and is extremely sad and upset about it. From what they told her.....they said its ok for to obtain a job on base first....then I can get a job on base. Not the other way around. Keep in mind this is how we did it the first time. Since she had to reapply for her position, in the eyes of HRO it looked like I had the job first so they said she does not qualify. Apparently this is written under the SOFA status agreement.

Does anyone have knowledge of this? I just find it unjust how my wife lost her job simply because I was a contractor. I mean, she had the job first before I got my job. Just that her job status changed. She had no choice to reapply for it. I would have had to quit my job first, let her reapply for the same job and run the risk of her not getting it. Doesnt make sense to me. If anyone knows about the rules and regulations I would love to hear it. Something is not right. Can really use some help.

    Thank you
