Last night I went to an all you can eat Yakiniku/Shabu Shabu Restaurant off of Blue street.  I believe the name is something like Akaoni.  If you take a left from Blue Street onto the street that has Mr. Donut and Pepper Lunch, and then walk down to the next block you'll find it.  You'll see signs overhead, and you walk into a foyer, and take the elevator the 6th floor.

    The prices are as follows:

    Lunch from 11-5  (6o minutes)

    Men ¥1380
    Women ¥ 1280
    Kids 5-12 ¥680
    Kids 3-5 ¥free?

Dinner 5-12a.m.  Last guests seated at 11:30  (1.5 hours)

    Men ¥2480
    Women ¥2380
    Kids 5-12 ¥1280
    Kids 3-5 ¥680

Optional unlimited drink menu ¥980 (This includes Beer, Chu-his, juice, and soda).  I ordered a Beer, and it was HUGE.  I thought they would give a bunch of small glasses, but they were all very reasonable.

This menu allows you all you can eat Yakiniku, Shabu Shabu, Ramen, Curry, Crab Legs, Salad Bar, Sushi, Assorted Cakes, and Ice Cream.

There is a great English menu which has very detailed instructions on how to cook items, and how the restaurant works.  I was very impressed due to memories I had of feeling clueless at our first attempt at Shabu Shabu 3 years ago.

This restaurant has been open since September, and the owner took the time to come out and talk to us.  There were only a few other people in this restaurant even though it was a Friday night, and can fit many people.

I've had some other friends attend this restaurant, and they said it was well worth the price, and it was a ton of food! Thanks for posting.

Thanks for posting this! I saw an ad in one of the papers on base (don't think it was Seahawk) and wanted to check it out. But of course I threw the ad out before I made it there.  I figured it's worth one trip just to experience some new foods. Thanks!

Are you talking about Gyu Kaku in Moore's city? I haven't eaten at that one, but I have eaten at the one in Zushi. I think Gyu Kaku is a lot more fancy. This one has a lot more options for food, I doubt you'd ever have to wait, and it can accomdate 6 people at a table. We had a party of 7, and they let us spread out at two tables across from each other so we'd have more room.

For Lunch you get 1 hour, and for Dinner you get an hour and a half. If you're able to down beers pretty fast, the unlimited drink option is a great add on. You can also add on more time if it's not long enough. I believe for lunch it was something like 300 yen for a half hour more. You also have to pay for the food on your plate that you DON'T eat...so beware.

YUP! It's a free for all.  As soon as you sit, and place drink orders, you're free to get up and get whatever you want.  There is a Yakiniku grill, and a Shabu Shabu pot on the table.

I took pictures, but I don't feel like resizing all of them to put on this site......I'm feeling lazy.  My husband is so jealous that I went there with friends last night, that he's pushing to go for lunch tomorrow.  I definitely won't put up a fight on that one.

Dannng, that sounds awesome. Wish I would of known about that sooner for tonight. I'm all for a place that has unlimited drinks since that can be a huge part of our bill when we go out, lol.

It doesn't get super smokey or anything in there does it? Because we went to that one right on the corner of Blue Street and 16 (super cheap, super Sailor bait), and it was a nightmare.

Woman eat cheaper, ha ha. I've seen some wives scarf down more, tho. >D

Akaoni is very decent for the price. I went for lunch twice last week!! I have not went to dinner there at night because I'm not that crazy about crab and though I'm half Japanese, not too crazy about sushi either. But really, the food is decent. The families preferred Yakiniku joint is Gyu Gaku in More's City but when we're inbetween paychecks, Akaoni is where we go!

My department also had a farewell party at Akaoni back in October and it worked out great!

Because I care for all of you so much, I decided to suck it up and go back for lunch so I could check out the difference between Lunch and Dinner. The only difference (other than the price and time alloted) that I could tell was that there was no crab legs or Sushi out. Everything else was the same.

The meat and vegetables are in a big refridgerated case that you help yourself to. In order to avoid eating something like tongue or liver (unless you like that stuff), I suggest looking at the sign on the wall. They have it numbered as to what meat it is. However, there are no numbers on the actual meat trays, so just pay attention to which order they are in on the shelves.

Individual sodas were only 120 yen, and come in a huge mug. I also noticed that if you do want to take part in the 980 for all you can drink, that everyone at your table has to order that option too.

Also, there is a game area when you walk into the restaurant. You'll notice a free cotton candy machine where you can make it yourself. My kids loved it, even though I ended up with Cotton candy all over my clothes, and in my hair.

There is a sign that says to inquire about reservations, as well as a sign that says they do not give seperate checks, so be prepared to pay all in one lump sum.

The 980 unlimited drinks has booze and regular drinks on it.  I think they make everyone at the table order it, so that they don't have people trying to save money by giving others their drinks.  Like I mentioned before, the drinks are much larger and cheaper than normal Japanese restaurants, so ordering Alacarte might be a better choice for you if you don't think you can drink that much.  I ordered a Beer and a Chu hi the other day, and knew that I got my money's worth with the all you can drink menu.  Today, because I was with the kiddos, I just had two sodas, and only paid ¥240 all together.

This particular restaurant actually specifies in the menu, that if one person orders this option, eveyrone else has to as well.  I've never seen it that way at any other restaurant.

    Peer pressure.

Alllright, I just want confirmation on the directions since I might be leading a pack of hungry people this Friday. Is "the next block" referring to you walking away from Blue Street, or am I walking parallel to Blue Street once I'm on the Mr Donut/Pepper Lunch road? What side of the street is it on, etc etc?

I'm a stickler for details, so sorry and thank you in advance!

Sorry, I just now saw this post.

If you are walking on Blue street, you will take a left on the street that has the Mr. Donut and Pepper Lunch. (When I tried walking parallel to Blue Street I didn't see the Pepper Lunch, and it threw me off, so for the first time I suggest walking up Blue street).

Walk on the Same side of the street as Mr. Donut and Pepper Lunch, and cross the street to the next block.

    Look for this:

    And This:

Take elevator to 6th floor and you'll see this: src="http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s28/softballwidow/DSCN1373.jpg">

No, thank you for the pics!

We didn't end up going because we were canceled on, but went to "Younger Than Yesterday" below it (great place, awesome live music, English speaking staff and menu... very friendly staff and owner!). Just to elaborate, the all you can eat place... it's on the left hand side, the same side as Mr Donut and Pepper Lunch, but walk past those two (walking away from Blue Street), and cross another street. You'll see the yellow sign for "Younger Than Yesterday" first, and then the sign for this place is above it. Very easy to find, just look for a group of restaurants in a foyer, and then take the elevator to the top.

We finally stopped by tonight with a group of six. Totally worth it, everyone was happy since there was so much to choose from and no wait. The drinks were huge, including the sodas! So if you're the kinda person who only has a "couple" when you go out, don't bother with the "all you can drink" menu. Not worth it since the drinks are big.

So much... curry, ramen, yakiniku, sushi, salad bar, shabu shabu... on and on... you don't where to start. So you if you're going with a group who is picky, I totally recommend this place, there is a little for everyone (even those picky American appetites!).

    Thanks for the rec, guys.

There is also a great all-you-can eat Yakiniku place in More City on the top floor (which is 9th I believe). The name is Gyu Gaku. You get 90 minutes to eat all you want and trust me, you will be stuffed. There is an English menu and there are pictures of items on there to help you, as well. Any time you want more, you just press a buzzer and the staff comes and you tell them what you want more of and you name 2-4 items. They will bring it to you within a few mins. They have all kinds of beef, pork, chicken and veggies on the menu. It is very tasty! I have been there twice and enjoyed it each time. At the end of the meal, they served us some ice cream as dessert. It was a nice little treat to end the meal with. If you keep the receipt and show the parking attendant the receipt when you leave, you do not have to pay to park there in the parking garage! I think that is an added bonus on cold or rainy days too. Hope this helps.

Claudia, you got to adventurous! Most of the meat there is beef just in different cuts. The liver, pork and such is pretty easy to tell apart.

Poteat: there are many places close to base. There are two Gyu-kakus close to Chuo, which is probably the most gaijin friendly. The bigger one is in More's on the 9th floor. There is another good place close to TGIF but on the street that runs parallel to Blue Street --Tiger. That's was my fav. But it can be pricey as they have excellent cuts of meat.

But as I said, there are many around base and Chuo. just keep an eye out and ask around.

Aka Oni is "cheap" but I like to go there with friends because everyone is happy --even the picky gaijin.
