Hi and welcome! Congrats on your pregnancy!
I had my first two babies here in Yokosuka in 02 and 05 and will be having my 4th baby here in April.
There are a few differences you will find at this hospital compared to say a civilian hospital in the states. ( I had my third baby in the states at a NIIICE hospital that was civilian.)
Lemme try and list some for you and help with your questions. ( I know I was scared to death to come over here and have my first baby alone!)
USNH Yokosuka* Offers epidurals, and other pain management* Does not have a nursery, only rooming in*You do not have one main doc you go to, you see many throughout your pregnancy and one of them will deliver you*If your baby is premature or there are problems the hospital cannot handle, they will most likely send you off base or med evac you to Tripler or Okinawa* No birthing baths*Husband CAN spend the night in the room with you*They DO have birthing balls ( I lived on one when I was in labor with my second)* If it's your first baby and you have a regular birth, you will most likely be there 2 days, if c section most likely 3-4 days*The hospital is a bit older and the labor and delivery ward isn't as *new* and *pretty* as a civilian ward isNow, having babies both here and at a regular stateside hospital, there weren't enormous differences. You will probably talk with some women who hate it here and others who had a great experience, I will say most of the docs try to give you the best care they can. It's early in the morning so I am trying to remember everything I can, but please pm me with any questions that I can help you with! Also, take the Budget for Baby class when you get here that NMCRS offers! ( I teach it and you get a free bag full of baby things!)
