The Japanese word for weather is "tenki".  It's good to remember this when searching for weather information sites.  The reason I'm starting this thread is because I'm starting to see a people asking about the weather in Japan and as the rainy and typhoon seasons approach weather is going to have a bigger impact on our lives.  People want to know where to get good information right now.   (Adam:  you may wish to put this in another folder so folks don't have to go too far to find it.)

I'm gonna tell ya up front that if you want good, accurate, up-to-date information you should really use the several Japanese weather sites.  Don't let your lack of language skills impede; click on links and you'll get the picture.  Yes, there are other English language sites like Weather Underground and they're fine for general info.  But when you want pin-point reporting nothing beats the Japanese sites.  My favorite is the pin-point site for Yokosuka.  There are two major tabs on top:  the one on the right gives not really useful stuff (is it a good day to hang laundry?  I'm serious.) and the left one gives you all of the weather maps, satellite images, weather radar and typhoon tracking information.  Click away on the lower tap line.

For best results in searching for weather for your area there are some sites where you can just click on the region on the map and it'll take you there.  Here's a couple that I use:

    http://www.e-tenki.net/index.asp
    http://tenki.jp/rader/

Again, click around.  Forget the ads, just concern yourself with the area around any map you can see.  Some have drop downs to select your region or city.  I find it's helpful for newcomers to just learn the kanji for Tokyo and click whenever you see it; you can't go wrong.

Here's your typhoon tracking site from U of Hawaii:  http://www.solar.ifa.hawaii.edu/Tro...pical.html

For general Japan weather information in English, the Japan Meteorological Agency has the best:

Ah, yes, thank you for this! Will be helpful when typhoon season hits, that's for sure. I was using the Weather Underground site, too. It's okay but pretty basic.

Japan Meteorlogical Agency also offers great information about earthquake magnitudes and locations.  Their information is usually posted withing minutes after feeling an earthquake.
